GM Daewoo investing $3.2 billion in Updated Products, Production Capacity

Quote:
GM Daewoo announced today that it will invest another $3.2 billion over the next few years in updated products and possibly expanding production capacity. Daewoo sales are projected to increase by about 20 percent this year, thanks to increased sales in Europe and North America with models like the Chevy Aveo and its many global variants. Outside of South Korea, most Daewoos are branded as Chevrolets, as well as Pontiacs, Suzukis and Holdens.

Neither can I. But seeing the recent track record, I'm sure they'll be good products.

I would like to see GM bring Daewoos back into the U.S. Whether they be with a dealer network or sold as rebadges of other brands.

Re: GM Daewoo investing $3.2 billion

It'd be smart if Daewoo becomes a sub-brand of GM like Saturn and have their own dealer networks. But, that means the Aveo will be cut from Chevy. Daewoo has become on a roll lately. The Captiva, Tosca are just a few to mention. Also this is off topic. But, Daewoo is going to debut a rebadged Saturn Sky, deemed the Daewoo G2X, which will debut next month in Seoul.

Re: GM Daewoo investing $3.2 billion

Yes Daewoo should come back to America........as Daewoo Commercial Fleet! They can be GM's Fleet brand while cutting Suzuki down a notch! Also the G2X came out last year if I am not mistaken. It should be going on sale this year.

Hopefully we get a 1.8L engine that gets 40mpg.

I can dream can't I?

I don't see why they dont just do a DI 1.8L and just forget the 2.2 altogether. Unless DI is expensive to implement, but I don't imagine it could be terribly expensive.

A DI 1.8 would probably rival the 2.2's power output and certainly get over 40mpg highway.

Re: GM Daewoo investing $3.2 billion in Updated Products, Production Capacity

I really want my sister to consider an Aveo over the Corolla she is looking at. You can get a nice 2007 Aveo sedan LT with ABS and automatic for around $14,000.00

The sad thing is, I want her to consider the Aveo instead of a base Cobalt because the Aveo comes with a TON more standard equimpent.

What is really nice is the Aveo LT comes standard with the stereo upgrade and side curtain airbags.

No it wouldn't. The batch of Daewoos that were sold here from 1999 to 2002 were total crap-and the current batch isn't all that much better. Selling vehicles called "Daewoos" here again would be foolish, and so would be for GM to add yet another brand to thier lineup, even if it only was a sub-brand. Plus, importing more Daewoos will only piss off the UAW, requiring bribes to them during contract-time (I believe the UAW gets $500 in bribe money for every Aveo sold).
