Will Chevy compete with the TATA $2500 egg or whatever they will call it?

Its stupid to sell cars in india or china. Why we keep developing these markets is beyond me, besides greed. More cars in china and india equals higher gas prices for me, or higher car prices because I have to buy some hybrid, plug in, algae, wheat grass burning mobile to satisfy the liberal babies who think the earth is warming while the chinese and indians get to drive around spewing CO2 into the atmosphere like its 1900 America!

CNN has already predicted $5. a gallon gas by 2015 due to the tata $2500 cheapo car. Last time I checked they were happy with their mopeds and donkeys. Leave them alone!!!

So other countries shouldn't drive cars so that Americans can have cheap gas? That's fantastic reasoning. Weren't Americans happy with their horses and wagons? Why ever did they get so happy driving cars and trucks?

Uhh... Tata (an Indian company) and the Chinese companies will sell cars in India and China whether you like it or not. The choice for GM (or any other car maker) is whether they want a piece of the pie and makes some money or let the local manufacturers rule without competition.

India isn't just "mopeds and dokeys." There are quite a number of places in India that are higher end and certainly would benefit from a Cadillac or two trolling the streets. Like in Goa.

Re: GM confident of having 10 percent marketshare in India by 2010

The thing I don’t like about GM expanding market share in India is I’m sure GM isn’t doing it right. And what I mean by that is I’m sure they are sacrificing parts and build quality for production speed and cost.

5-10 years down the road when there are more Indians with enough money to buy a car Chevy is going to have a crap reputation and Toyota is going to take over the market.

GM needs to be building cars over there that can’t be killed. Cars that can be over loaded repeated while running on 3 year old oil and not skip a beat. And they all need to have parts commonality so if someone does manage to break one parts are cheap and easy to find. If they build cars like that they will have a following that can’t be easily broken.
