General Motors India sales grow by 25 percent

India: General Motors sales grow by 25 percent
CJ: Carazoo.com
8/8/2008

GENERAL MOTORS (GM) India has made remarkable sales growth in July with 25 per cent rise at 5,706 units against 4,570 units during the same month last year.

According to GM, “July 2008, sales consist of 3,570 units of Chevrolet Spark, 921 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 501 units of the Chevrolet Aveo, 344 units of the Chevrolet Optra, and 370 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.

The monthly gush in sales figures is mainly driven by the Chevrolet Spark, which has emerged as a great value for money proposition.”

According to GM India vice-president, P Balendran, “despite a lethargic market, our positive monthly sales figure is a clear signal of the success of our car lines. Chevrolet Spark has made huge inroads in the Indian small car segment”.

...which does nothing more than ensure gas prices will remain inflated here in the states. GM sales in India and China are bittersweet. On one hand a sale is a sale, and GM needs them. On the other, the huge growth in those two countries force high oil prices which in turn kills our economy over here - killing GM's cash cow products such as SUVs and trucks.

A win for GM in China/India is a loss for all of us over here.

What a goofy looking car. :/ Looks better than a Tata though.

Imagine if they sold something decent. The Aveo is garbage.

Imagine how good GM sales would be in India if GM offered crucial-to-the-Indian-market Diesel models?

I guess so. People are standing in line to jerk off over news like this, yet don't see the relationship to oil prices.

Wow, 25% increase all the way to 5000 cars. I guess GM's troubles are over.
