Re: Falling in LUV Again at $4.00+ a Gallon? Chevy's Brazilian Beauty

Please change the front end and interior before bringing it, especially that Daewoo steering wheel!!

Re: Falling in LUV Again at $4.00+ a Gallon? Chevy's Brazilian Beauty

The big question is: How fast can they get it here? I like it, the only concern is that I think it might need a little upgrading for the interior it looks a little spartan in the photos, but I do have to say that you can not beat the price or the mileage and best of all our Japanese fiends have nothing like it ready to go.

I'm torn about the name. I know people of a certain age, like me, would immediately remember this 1970s moniker but "Luv" doesn't do much for me today. I suggest "Cheyenne" .

Re: Falling in LUV Again at $4.00+ a Gallon? Chevy's Brazilian Beauty

I thought these were being built in Mexico already. If Mexico can sell them cheap why can't we?
Better yet get a CKD to lordstown and build it with the Astra and Cobalt. Then the Cobalt could be AWD too!

Correction; its based on corsa not astra. Guess it needs different line.

Bring it here. At $15k, it would sell...

You've got to love it:

"Tornado’s 1,600-pound payload capacity beats the Ridgeline by 50 pounds."

And for anyone who doubts the capabilities of a small trucklet like this -- well, try HALVING the specs further, and you could still do this with a 534cc SOHC 3-cylinder Suzuki Mighty Boy:

Re: Falling in LUV Again at $4.00+ a Gallon? Chevy's Brazilian Beauty

That is a very nice looking little truck, it deserves a chance here. It actually has the right payload for a lot of jobs, the fuel economy should be great, too. Odd thought here is that there was a Dodge Rampage concept a while back that was a FWD pickup truck. Could they not counter it by building a version of the Caliber as a truck? Some might say that that was what the Caliber was meant to be all along...

You would have to send CKD kits to US and build them there.
If Mahindra can do CKD in Ohio, GM can do CKD in the U.S. too.

No, it's basically the last generation Opel CORSA p/u. The Corsa is Aveo sized, this p/u is strictly a 2-seater. I think it'd sell well. It's not meant to replace the Colorado or Canyon, or heck, even compete with the Tacoma. It's a small truck, like the LUV was. It's about size of an S-10 with the short box, perfect for most jobs people use trucks for. It wouldn't compete with anything 4wd. I think it would have a chance here.

Maybe, but right now the G8 sedan is getting 17/25 mpg. The G8 ST would probably be no better or worse and I doubt folks will actually use it as a pickup. Its a pretender like the Avalanche and Ridgeline. You never see those doing work on jobsites.

The Mexican / Brazilian LUV seems like a good short term solution to me althought the name LUV SUX.

I say retool one of the plants which are closing for full size production, in favor of this little ute. I think it would sell really well.

Re: Falling in LUV Again at $4.00+ a Gallon? Chevy's Brazilian Beauty

I could probably make due with a little truck like that.

Except today, I had to pull a 6,000 lb manlift out of the mud with the Silverado in 4Low. Don't think I could have done that with an LUV (or the Trailblazer)....but then again, I bet the TEREX could have.

I don't think I've come close to the 1800lb payload in the Silverado.

Yup...Put this little bad dude in Janesville and they'll need 3 shifts to keep up with demand...If the price is right!

The Avalanche is no pretender---it can at least fullfill the call of duty if the need arises. Granted you don't see many actually used as work trucks, but at least they are capable--unlike the Ridgeline.
