Falling in LUV Again at $4.00+ a Gallon? Chevy's Brazilian Beauty

Quote:
The Tornado’s cargo box measures 66.5 inches by 55 inches, and it’s entirely practical. The side walls are tall, and there are neatly integrated steps behind the B-pillar to make loading easier. Tie-down cleats circling the bed rails make it easy to secure cargo. The Ridgeline’s payload area is 60 inches by 50 inches, and the Tornado’s 1,600-pound payload capacity beats the Ridgeline by 50 pounds.

Chevrolet's Small Brazilian Beauty Doesn't Love American Buyers...Yet

© 2008 PickupTrucks.com
Page: [1]
With gas prices headed for $4.50 to $5 a gallon, a number of pickup truck buyers are thirsting for a small work truck and coming up dry.
Forget the hybrid Toyota A-BAT; it's got a nice footprint, but it's still vaporware, aimed at hipsters and Baby Boomers. Forget the Australian-hatched Pontiac G8 sport truck (whatever it will be called), a V-8 powered muscle car with a bed for El Camino enthusiasts -- all 5,221 of them. Forget the compact Ford Ranger; it's scheduled to be euthanized next year, possibly to be replaced by a much larger F-100.
Midsize trucks? Ha! Considering how much you’ll pay for a new one that has only marginally better fuel economy than a half-ton, you might as well buy a full-size pickup. Which is why small-work-truck shoppers aren’t shopping at all.
What if I told you, though, that there was a truck on sale right now just a few minutes’ drive from San Diego that could haul 1,600 pounds of cargo, get more than 30 mpg on the highway and cost around $15,000 well-equipped? And it’s made by Chevrolet. You’d be interested, right?

Good to see someone else briging this up, and not just an in-the-know GM car geek like me.

Of course I'd be interested!

And it's Brazilian!!!

And by that I mean, don't most of their cars run on ethanol?

I had actually totally forgotten about the little Chevy LUV. I think something like that would be the perfect Colorado replacement, actually. Get it certified for US consumption and BRING IT--and don't waste any time doing so!

I don't think I would want one. But priced right and with 30+ MPG I bet it wouldn't do that bad.

I think it'd sell, especially to the weekend DIY'ers and lawn services. I like the way it looks, the fuel economy is pretty decent and the utility is more than most people would use. I say bring it.

Re: Falling in LUV Again at $4.00+ a Gallon? Chevy's Brazilian Beauty

I would be the first person in line at my dealership trying to buy one.

Hmmm.........30 mgg, and $15,000 for a little truck? Are you kidding me? What is GM waiting for. I have known this truck exists for the last couple of years, why can't we get one?

I am sure it is because our government likes to protect us from ourselves and this truck doesn't have all the safety bells and whistles.

Chevy LUV = Chevy Colorado.
Chevy LUV with beefed up exterior = GMC Canyon.
Chevy LUV in the US = Death of the tacoma.

I could totally go for one of these - or heck bring the S10 back. If I could get a small quad cab/extended cab truck that seats 5 and got 30 mpg ish I'd be all over it.

The whole mid size argument is EXACTLY why I got a Silverado instead of a Colorado.

How would it cost about $15 000?

All imported pickup trucks and utility vehicles going to the USA are hit with a 25% tariff!

You would have to send CKD kits to US and build them there.

Re: Falling in LUV Again at $4.00+ a Gallon? Chevy's Brazilian Beauty

Tornado??? I thought it was called Montana? I like it I guess, but like me most people would want mpg robbing features like AWD, and more power. If it had a turbo 4(LNF?), AWD and a manual tranny it would probably still get into the 20's, and that would be perfect IMO. And when I say AWD, I dont mean sissy Equinox style AWD that kicks in after you need it, I want full time 4x4/AWD)
