Bonanza! GM Sells A Record One Million Vehicles In China For 2007!

GM's Million Sales Bonanza

CarPoint Editor

General Motors is the first car company to sell over a million vehicles in China during the course of one year.

The Shanghai GM joint venture between Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation and General Motors has enjoyed a top year in 2007, selling more than one million vehicles in China. It's the first occasion that any car company represented in China has sold in excess of six figures in just the one year.

'The General' has struggled recently with a financial report card that effectively reads: "D+, must try harder", but the news is all good for the multinational in the world's fastest growing automotive market.

Of particular interest to Australians, the one millionth car was a Buick Park Avenue, a Chinese-built version of the Holden Statesman. Furthermore, expat Aussie Kevin Wale was present to shake the hand and present the keys of the Park Avenue to the buyer, Mr Zhang Jianping. Wale is a former Holden employee who made good at Vauxhall before accepting the post of GM China Group President and Managing Director.

I was in Hangzhou last weekend and the Park Avenue won a viewers award in some automotive programme, unfortunately anna was having a shower and i couldn't find out any more but when the car drove on to the set it got a standing ovation. I haven't seen a lot of thyem on the road but I am now seeing more of them than I did the Royaum.

Now only if they put this much effort behind the Buick's in NA. Though the future looks promising.

GM - I would immediately buy that Park Avenue body and interior equipped with the LS9, big brakes, and other upgrades. Why don't you want my money? I assure you that offering Zeta sedans and a Ute in the US, and offering them with those kinds of performance equipment would make many of us baby boomers completely forget about spending the kind of money it takes to fool around with old muscle cars and hot rods. They would also compete well as an American alternative to M-B AMGs, BMW Ms, and such.

Bull ****, you have to have a DOHC ULTRA V8 n/a or f/i...it must offer a 6 speed manual MUST! and it must offer an optional 6sp AT with paddle shifters. Brembo brakes and FE5+ suspension tuning are a must, so is better feedback eletrohydralic steering, with SPARKO/RECARO or GMPP equivalent performance seats that offer tons of lateral support must be at least optional if not standard, same goes for a revised sport oriented gauge cluster, carbon fiber or TRUE aluminum inserts and a price increase for all this that justifies all of these options. Offer carbon ceramic brakes optionally also as a 10,000$ option.

CobaltSScrazy

Make a real 70,000 USD car with 70,000 dollars worth of upgrades, not thrown in an LSx, put a swedeluex insert in the seat, give it different tire combination and call it a day. thats bull ****, no one who drives an M/AMG/S/etc. will buy that. You're just pleasing the 'lower hanging/price sensitive' fruit with that garbage that want a bargain and a 4-door-corvette (with all its deficiencies: interior, handling, certain cheap bits, etc.)

We're getting the G8, which will be sold in the same building.

There are already plenty of people here screaming "rebadge" when it comes to the Acadia / Enclave, which are a lot less similar to each other than the PA / G8 are.

If we got the PA, that's all we'd hear.... rebadge, rebadge, blah, blah, blah.
