GM Recalls 34,000 Corvettes To Fix Removable-Hardtop Flaw

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES - May 26, 2006 5:56 p.m.

DETROIT -- General Motors Corp. said Friday it is voluntarily recalling 34,000 Chevrolet Corvettes from the 2005 and 2006 model years to fix a problem with a removable hardtop.

In some cases, a significant composite-plastic piece on the top can peal off and separate from the top's magnesium frame, GM spokesman Alan Adler said. The company sells a variety of versions of the Corvette, including a coupe with a permanent top and a soft-top convertible. The recall only affects vehicles with a painted removable hard top, which represent a sizeable portion of total Corvette sales.
The only Magnesium in a Corvette is the C6 Z06 and that is the engine cradle. The rest of the frame on the Z06 is Aluminum. A regular C6 has an all steel frame. So i doubt they are talking about a Z06.

This problem happened to an owner of a Z06 so it is Z06 and C6.

Tough times are ahead. A brand new car is not in the cards. My new (to me) 16 year old Accord serves the purpose extremely well. And it's paid off!

The removeable top frame and cross-dash reinforcement on a C5 uses magnesium also.

hahahahha, is funny VW recalled 362,000 cars and still no one cares about it, LOL. The whole thread is about the Corvette.

All I have to say is: You can always opt for the convertible C6.

apparently you know nothing about vettes and the guy who posted that has to be lying if he said it happened on a brand new ZO6. This only happens (if it does) on the removable hard top vette the ZO6 does not have a removable hard top it just has a hard top. The one the recall is talking about is the more familiar name "targa top" like Porshe used to call them.

VW recall is just a repeat. When they recall something I don't already know then I'll pay attn to it. German cars usually have those tail light and electrical problems what else is new they haven't fix it in decades.
