Re: Toyota Recalls 470,000 Vehicles in Japan

Last year Toyota recalled 2.38 million cars globally. In the U.S Toyota recalled about 800,000 and I know for a fact that 170,000 Prius' of that 800K were built and imported from Japan. I am sure more of those recalls were built in Japan and imported also. So, that would mean at least 1.75 million none American built Toyota's were recalled last year and up to 630,000 might be American built Toyota's were recalled. Hmmmmmm... where's the quality labor really at? Looks like America to me, but I am biased.

Re: Toyota Recalls 470,000 Vehicles in Japan

I root for the home team, so I'm happy to see Toyota having quality control problems. And I agree with rebaker, that what's remarkable about their recent recalls is that they usually pertain to really crucial engine/tranny type stuff.

But I respectfully disagree with gardnet1 and skylark68. Toyota isn't falling. Not yet anyway. And I think there's a ways to go before that actually starts to happen. I know their sales have been down for a quarter or 2, but that's on the heels of something sick like 20 quarters of straight growth. If it continues and Toyo stabilizes at 15% market share then I'll be relieved and happy. But let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

From the monthly sales reports through Sept., reality and facts...
GM.. -6.8%
T.... +3.6%
F.... -13.3%
C.... -3.0%
H.... +2.8%
N.... +4.7%

Except for Nissan, Toyota is doing better than any of the other top 6 in the US market. It is a tough tough market for everybody this year and into next year.

Re: Toyota Recalls 470,000 Vehicles in Japan

I am going to begin assembling a list of the past two years and the recalls that were issued. I would like some really good, hard numbers because everything from Hino to Lexus to Toyota have been having plenty of recalls...esp. in the home market. Its great info to give to the people who have little to no information and make assumptions about issues only being from the US. The ignorance is staggering.

Faulty fuel pipe design on the recalled models could cause cracks and corrosion and lead to a fuel leak, according to a notice filed with the Transport Ministry.
fuel leak too bad they recalled them, Lexus cars spontaneously combusting would of been news worthy

In the United States, 26,274 Lexus GS300, 5,429 Lexus IS250, and 2,640 Lexus IS350 vehicles are being recalled, Matsuura said. The recalled models were exported from Japan, she said, adding that the same models were also being recalled in Canada, England, and Germany
