Toyota recalls 250,000 vehicles worldwide

Lexus to recall 34,400 models in the U.S.

Toyota Motor calls back at least 250,000 vehicles worldwide

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it will recall about a quarter of a million cars worldwide, including 34,400 Lexus models in the U.S., due to potential cracks in the fuel pipes.

The defect serves as another speed bump for the world's second-biggest automaker, which has had to grappled with a surge in recalls and a ding in a recent quality survey as it moves swiftly towards becoming the industry's top dog.

The latest recall covers certain 2006 Lexus GS 300, IS 250 and IS 350 models in the U.S.

Re: Toyota recalls 250,000 vehicles worldwide

Here is the official press release straight from the horses - well , you know what I mean ....... which ever end they're using today .

Toyota Motor Sales Announces Safety Recall Campaign On Selected 2006 Lexus GS And IS 250/350 Models
11/28/2007 Torrance, CA
Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., will launch a Safety Recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The campaign involves approximately 34,400 2006 Lexus GS 300 (2WD and AWD), IS 250 (2WD and AWD) and IS 350 models. A possible crack may form over time in two specific fuel pipes in the engine compartment in the affected models. This condition only affects certain 2006 model year IS 250/350 and GS 300 vehicles.
The condition is due to high-stress areas that may have been created in two specific fuel pipes in the engine compartment during the manufacturing process. Combined with other factors such as the presence of corrosive agents in the fuel, a crack may form in the high-stress areas over time that could lead to fuel leakage. There has been one case reported with no related accidents.
TMS will notify owners of the involved vehicles with a Safety Recall notification via first class mail beginning in early December 2007. Newly designed fuel pipes will replace the affected fuel pipes at no charge to vehicle owners at any Lexus dealership.
Customers with questions or concerns should contact Lexus Customer Satisfaction at (800) 255-3987.

So worldwide , does this mean they have broken the 2M or the 3M mark for fuel line/hose recalls during the last 15 - 30 months ? Its beginning to look like an epidemic in the make .

That seems like a lot of vehicles to me, I wonder where the other manufactures are at.

Re: Toyota recalls 250,000 vehicles worldwide

I was lunching with some buds and cars came up, as they do when guys are downing pints, and to a one they said they'd no longer consider a Toyota because of the recent history of problems. GM they would consider, as they're willing to give GM a second chance especially due to the style the cars exhibit. They did mention Toyota has zero style and without a bulletproof reliability record there's no point buying a Toyota.

It is something I've heard quite a lot of: Toyota is a one trick pony. And if that pony's lame ...

Re: Toyota recalls 250,000 vehicles worldwide

We have a 2006 IS350, I wonder if ours will be recalled. I hope not because I really don't want to have to deal with the rude incompetent people in the Lexus service department again. Every time I take the car in for service they screw something up and overall their customer service is just terrible.

What a bunch of hogwash. Blame the assembly workers and the fuel instead of the faulty design... High stress is a design issue. And is Toyota only now discovering that gasoline is corrosive?

Re: Toyota recalls 250,000 vehicles worldwide

It's been about a month, so they were overdue for a recall. Next up will be the sienna... again for sliding doors that launch off the rails. I'm not even sure if they fessed up on the sienna front doors were they a recall or a service bulletin?

The FJ and now this.... they seem to be developing a serious crack habit at Toyota.

Scion & Lexus have some style, but not in all models, I guess the 4Runner passes ok but otherwise it they are appliances. GM is not perfect, but with interior and exterior styling jumping ahead in leaps and bounds, it gets harder and harder to not at least stop by and check out the vehicles.

When i moved to the USA in the late 90s, other than the Corvette, there was nothing on the market that would make me want to walk into a Chevy dealership.
