Re: Toyota recalls 206,388 Corolla Versos in Europe, elsewhere

Comparing recall to recall is the apple/orange thing. If my silverado got recalled for bad tailgate cables, are you really going to be nervous to drive that truck? Most of the Gm recalls have been for small items, and compared to the new recall king, Toyota, I feel much safer in a GM car or truck any day!!

Nice pun there, Cincy!

I guess this shows Toyota really does want to take GM's place in the world.

these recalls arent doing much to hinder toyotas sales, and they probably wont anytime soon, they're just giving a reason for people here to toot their own horns. bottom line is gm's june sales were down 25.9% while toyota's june sales were up 14.4%, and in today's world money talks and bull**************** walks. now can we please post more stories about gm in the news ticker and less about toyota, after all this is a gm site.

you may be talking about a coupe (which i haven't seen in a while so i'm a bit unfamiliar...), but try looking at a sedan. the door panels are covered in soft-touch materials and leather, they're not hard and plasticky. not to mention the fact that if you're trying to make an impression and dress up the interior of a car wouldn't you think that the dash should be the nicest part since it's what most people are going to focus on more often? the 9-3's dash isn't on par with an Accord's at all IMO. not to mention the fact that my wife's Accord wasn't even close to $30k, it was $22k. for a car that only costs $22k to have a nicer interior than one that goes for $30k and up is just an embarassment to me and GM should be ashamed of that. drive your Saab up to an Audi dealership if you really want to see how GM skimps on the quality of their interiors. as i said in my previous post, GM has figured out the reliability thing and is right up there with the best, but their interiors and assembly quality (fit and finish, materials, panel gap, etc.) leaves a lot to be desired. that being said, i have a TrailBlazer and love it to death despite its horrible interior.

I'm with you on the Trailblazer. If not for the need of an actual bed we'd still have our 2003. But you owe it to yourself to check out the new GM interiors (900 SUVs are a good place to start) if you still believe that assemby quality leaves a lot to be desired at GM. It's just gonna take a while for it to filter throughout the model lineups and replace the older stuff. Sadly, the Trailblazer now appears to be off the list to receive the better stuff, and instead is going to be allowed to fade away without the badly needed update.

i was referring to their cars more than anything else. i've seen a lot of the Escalade and it's pretty nice, but i think their "regular" cars, the mainstream vehicles need serious attention. that's where they're going to make their living, and that's where they need the most help right now. it's good that they have the trucks looking good, but that's not nearly as important as being competitive in the midsize and compact car segments again.

Re: Toyota recalls 206,388 Corolla Versos in Europe, elsewhere

I understand what you mean about the cars. But even so, the current crop (starting with the 04 Malibus) have had much better assembly quality in the interiors. The designs haven't necessarily been that great (I liked our 04's interior, but lots didn't :P). But the fit of everything was tight.

And the more recent updates have pretty much been matching the design you see on the 900s- thank the new corporate look, headunits, etc. for that one. Maybe the upcoming Malibu will inherit the same trend and finally have materials and styling (most) everyone can agree on as being worth checking out.
