Re: Toyota recalls 206,388 Corolla Versos in Europe, elsewhere

thats unfortunate for toyota and the consumers that bought those cars. I appreciate Toyotas pro-active approach to recalls though even if they shouldn't happen in the first place. At least their focus is still spot on, its all about the customer and making them happy. Short term pain equates to long term gain and unfortunately for GM fans like yourself and myself, GM is still paying dearly for that sin by the numerous people on the coasts that won't even look at GM cars much less purchase them.

recalls still say exactly nothing about certain aspects of quality. for example, the plastic quality of a dashboard, or body panel gaps, or seat fabrics. GM has reliability down pretty well, and they seem to have only a resonable amount of recalls as of late, but they haven't quite climbed up to the level of some imports as far as material quality or build quality yet. there is a difference, and the reason my wife has a Honda is partially because the car is just assembled better with nicer looking (and feeling) materials and fitment. i could have gotten a V6 G6 or Malibu for a similar price with similar equipment, but i didn't like them as well.

Those stats were using recalls related to "% of vehicles in operation".
Using this criteria is very kind to a shrinking market share(GM) and not so kind so smaller market shares in the past(Toyota). Most recalls are for vehicles a few model years old. The average median age for a car is now close to 10 years now. Comparing recall numbers of relatively new vehicles and using older vehicles in the comparison that are 10, 15 and even 20 years old is hardly accurate.

Are you sure about that? The Japanese government disagrees with you, they are investigating with Toyota officials in coverups that lead to accidents.

Also you have Toyota announcing there may be a problem with the FJ Cruiser wheels, not through conventional means, but through sites like this only dedicated to the FJ...talk about shady.

I find your post hugely offensive. If you find an article on a GM recall anywhere, post it in the "Suggest a News Article" forum and it will be placed in the appropriate forum. GM bad news is not swept under the rug here. This is GM Inside News and ALL GM news is discussed here good or bad.

Well....the first step to dealing with your problems is admitting it......on to the next 11 steps for Toyota.

I didn't recall that. Not that I don't believe you, but it's not how I remember it. That's why I asked. Link?

I'm just going off this article and their NA track record. Any problem they had with any Lexus when the brand was launched was delt with swiftly and promptly. The other recalls I've read about over the past year, they have seemed to take care of in a short amount of time. What they have done in their home turf, I don't know about, but just going off of what I know, its better to be too safe than risk it and be sorry.

Offended? Why?

I don't want to read about Opel and Holden and GM China recalls on this site and I doubt other posters do either. But because other posters often complain about a media bias against GM, I don't think that excuses the bias that is beginning to show on this site by attempting to portray a competitor (Toyo) unfairly either.

As it should, this site mostly reports GM US news and only GM US recalls, so in the interests of having a more honest debate about vehicle quality and the number of recalls, reporting only US vehicles recalled would be more accurate and lead to an unbiased discussion which benefits all members here.
