Recall: Nissan Murano

Nissan Recalls Murano AWD's

Jano Gibson
9 March 2006

www.smh.com.au

Thousands of Nissan All-Wheel-Drive vehicles are being recalled over seatbelt and fuel tank safety concerns.

The car manufacturer says seat belts in about 2000 recently purchased Nissan Murano vehicles could be severed in the event of a frontal collision.

It says the outer rear seat belt webbing could be cut by the sharp metal edge of the rear seat back hinge.

"If the webbing is completely severed, it can increase the risk of injury to an occupant in a collision," Nissan said in a vehicle safety recall notice placed in newspapers today.

It also said: "In the event the front tyre runs over a sharp object and propels it towards the rear of the vehicle, it can potentially strike the front lower edge of the fuel tank, thus damaging it."

The recall was "merely a precaution" and no such incidents had been reported in Australia, a Nissan spokeswoman said.

Owners of the $52,990 vehicles bought between August, 2005, and February, 2006, are being urged to contact Nissan dealers to arrange for their vehicles to be rectified.

The spokeswoman said the problem could be fixed in about 30 minutes and owners would not be charged.

The VINs of the affected vehicles lie within the following ranges:

- For the seat belt issue: JN1TANZ50A0 000007 to JN1TANZ50A0 001276

- For the fuel tank issue: JN1TANZ50A0 000007 to JN1TANZ50A0 002631

Before this recall, there weren't many recalls in the last few months.

I like the Murano. Its a good car, good size, good price. Its styling is just off.

I wish they would redesign it to look a little more traditional suv than that. In any case, its not too bad as long as they owners don't put that horizontal grill on it.

What gather from that is that it would be a global problem. They haven't even sold that many out here yet.

I actually think it's a great look for Nissan. It was the first vehicle that actually made me think Nissan had some hot cars. I see these everywhere, and if I had a good job and some cash I would love to have one in black.

Nissan has the XTerra, the Pathfinder, and the Armada. It doesn't need another traditional SUV. The Murano has a nice little market almost all to itself and the price is just right.

You are right.

I actually like the back end (except the weird looking D pillar). Its mostly the grille for the Murano (and all Nissan cars) that discust me.

They butchered the Maxima. At least they left us the Altima.

So:
Pathfinder- Trailblazer competitor
Armada- Suburban/Tahoe
Murano- ...Equinox
Xterra- ?

I hope this is where a 355 based Blazer fits in.

Re: Recall: Nissan Murano

it's gotta be australian only... if it included US market it be way more than 2000 be recalled, since even just 1 months worth would be around 6000-7500 (based on nissan's reported sales) plus the ones from australia (so 8-10 thousand total). now there may be a US recall for them coming shortly, but it'd be seperate from this one... in fact i think in general recalls are done seperately in each country (or at least region) anyway.
