Recall #07066/Chevy, GMC & Isuzu 7500/8500
Date: May 1, 2007
Subject: Upcoming Safety Recall 07066 Haldex Air Compressor Models: 2007 Chevrolet, GMC and Isuzu 7500/8500 Series Conventional and Tilt Cab Equipped with 7.8L Diesel Engine (RPO LG4/LF8) and Air Brakes (RPO JE4) To: All Chevrolet, GMC and Isuzu Dealers Attention: Dealer Operator, General Manager, Sales Manager, Service Manager, Used Car Manager, Parts Manager, and Warranty Administrator Based on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the media may report that General Motors will be announcing a safetyrecall involving certain 2007 model year 7500/8500 series Chevrolet Kodiak and T-Series; GMC TopKick and T-Series; and Isuzu F-Series and H-Series vehicles equipped with a 7.8L diesel engine (RPO LG4/LF8) and air brakes (RPO JE4). The air compressor in some of these vehicles may not build enough air pressure to support the air brake system. If this condition were to occur while the vehicle was stationary (brakes applied) the air brakes would remain applied and prevent the vehicle from moving. If this condition were to occur while the vehicle was in motion, the dual system air pressure gauges would register the drop in pressure. If the pressure continued to drop, the low air pressure warning buzzer and warning lamp would activate as designed, warning the driver to move the vehicle to a safe location. If the driver ignores these warnings and continues to drive the vehicle, and if there was a continued loss of pressure, the rear spring parking brakes would automatically apply, preventing the truck from being driven. To correct this condition, dealers will replace the air compressor head. A total of 1,896 vehicles are involved and GM is working with the supplier to obtain the required parts as quickly as possible. Customer notification letters are tentatively scheduled to be mailed on May 23, 2007. GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS) information for this recall will not be available until the recall bulletin is released to dealers on May 16, 2007. Note: The same suspect air compressor is also used on 6500 And 7500 series vehicles equipped with hydraulic brakes (RPO JE3). These vehicles are not included in this recall because vehicle braking is not affected. Only auxiliary air operated systems such as the air suspension, air seat and air horn would be involved if the compressor fails to provide enough air pressure. To facilitate air compressor head replacement on these vehicles, GM is releasing Customer Satisfaction Program 07109.
