Product Safety Recall #06013/04-05 Xlr

Well, the balance seekers missed this one...so much for informed balance:

GM PARTS BULLETINS & INFORMATION - TO CADILLAC DEALERS
Subject:GMP06-161 - 06013 Daytime Running Lamps/Turn Signal/Parking Lamps Inoperative, MODELS: 2004-2005 Cadillac XLR with Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)Message #:VSU20061210
PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL #06013
DATED: JULY 24, 2006

DESCRIPTION:

General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2004-2005 Cadillac XLR vehicles equipped with daytime running lamps (DRL). On these vehicles, the DRL, turn signal and parking lamps use the same bulb. The bulb may become damaged from vibration within a loose fitting bulb base. This condition will cause the bulb to burn out prematurely. If this were to occur, the driver would notice that the arrow in the instrument panel would flash faster than normal when the turn signal is activated. The loss of the DRL and turn signals could fail to warn others of the vehicle's presence or driver's intentions and could lead to a vehicle crash.

CORRECTION

Dealers are to replace the socket and bulb in both lamps.

Refer to Product Safety Recall Bulletin #06013 for further information.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
Owner mailing is scheduled to begin July 31, 2006.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

PARTS INFORMATION

Parts Pre-Ship Information – For US and Canada

Important: An initial supply of sockets and bulbs required to complete this recall will be pre-shipped to involved Dealers of record. This pre-shipment is scheduled to begin the week of July 17, 2006, and will be approximately 10% of each Dealer's involved vehicles. Pre-shipped parts will be charged to Dealer's open parts account.

Additional parts, if required, are to be obtained from General Motors Service and Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

Anyone ever notice that many GM cars and Trucks have problems with thier lights? Like a fog lamp is out or something like that.

My CTS currently has that problem, and when I notice someone elses fog light out, it seems like its always a GM car or truck.

You are correct...

GM allegedly fix the truck DRL's by using 14 volt bulbs...it still hasn't cured the problem...

IMO, I'd rather disable the DRL's as they are not required in the USA...

DRL's on my 98 Bonneville have worked great for years. I think I replaced 1 turn signal bulb in 100k miles.

True, as they are the headlamps, and they last because the car runs the DRL's at reduced power...

Really? I always thought it was VW's that had that problem. Everytime I look there is a missing taillight, healight, foglight or turn light. It's so common I expect it from VW's.

I don't notice it so much on VW's, but I notice it especially on GM fullsize GMT800 trucks...

My Saab was recalled because the AirBag Warning Sticker on the underside of the sunvisor used the wrong type of glue, so it could easily be removed.

THAT'S a weird recall.

Did you actually waste you're time to have that one done?

thats unfortunate, and its on the XLR! Great more people to complain about how they had to take in their 75-100k dollar vehicle in for repairs. Its really just inexcusable, but good they found this early and will service it.

The 2004 Malibu had a recall like that becasue something was "worded incorrectly." They sent everyone NEW stickers in the mail that we had to place over the old ones.
