Noncompliance Recall 07149/2007 Cadillac CTS Equipped with a Sunroof (RPO CF5)

Date: October 3, 2007

Subject: Upcoming Noncompliance Recall 07149
Sunroof Operation

Models:2007 Cadillac CTS Equipped with a Sunroof (RPO CF5)

To: All Cadillac Dealers

Attention: Dealer Operator, General Manager, Sales Manager,
Service Manager, Used Car Manager, Parts Manager
and Warranty Administrator

Based on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the media may report that General Motors will be announcing a noncompliance recall involving certain 2007 model year Cadillac CTS vehicles equipped with a sunroof (RPO CF5).

These vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 118 - Power Operated Window Systems. Under the Standard, the sunroof may only be closed when the ignition is on, or after the ignition is turned off, but before either of the front doors are opened. The subject vehicles may exhibit a condition where the sunroof can be closed after the ignition is turned off and the doors are opened.

To correct this condition, dealers are to install a wire harness.

A total of 9,648 vehicles are involved. Dealers will be notified when customer notification letters are scheduled to be mailed.

GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS) information for this recall will not be available until the recall bulletin is released to dealers.

Why are these notices being posted on the Front Page? Are they really front page worthy? Between these dealer notices and the customer satisfaction notices, what have we seen, like 8 of them in the past 2 days? This is for the old CTS and affects just 9000 vehicles. This, and the others, are news?

I'm sorry, but they are recalls....and for some reason they are set up for the ticker...which I can't control...

Maybe an administrator can answer this??????

I got scared and thought this was for the 08 CTS at first. Seems like a minor recall.

I understand the need. Can't put a V6 in a vehicle and call it GTO. Never have, never will.

It's a worthless recall. Most owners notified won't bring the car in for this. I wouldn't. I know, it's a "safety issue", but I'd actually prefer it to work this way.

I see and agree with your point, cincygoblue; I was thinking the same thing. And that's said irrespective of how things are set up automatically.

So this FMVSS is why we cant get "comfort close" on the 9-3. (Where you hold lock on the fob to close all windows) I hate when the safety ninnies get in the way of features.

Besides, anyone with a little automotive electrical background could modify ANY moonroof to operate completely independent of the vehicle accy circuit. Tap the power directly to 12vdc constant (instead of switched) and you can open and close your moonroof any time you want.

OMG. I did not realise you have to drop that feature in US vehicles. That sucks.

I thought that VW's was when you hold the key in the lock pos in the door. The SAAB has the feature if you set the software to "Rest of the World" but now USA. It does have "comfort open" in both modes (hold unlock to open all).
