Noncompliance recall#06079 Vehicle Certification & Tire Pressure Label

GM SERVICE AND PARTS OPERATIONS
DCS1632
URGENT - DISTRIBUTE IMMEDIATELY

Date: August 10, 2006

Subject: Upcoming Noncompliance Recall 06079
Vehicle Certification and Tire Pressure Label

Models: 2006 Cadillac SRX
2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Reg Cab
2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500, Colorado Crew Cab 2WD
and Colorado Ext Cab 4WD
2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Reg Cab
2007 GMC Canyon Reg Cab, Canyon Crew Cab
and Canyon Ext Cab 4WD

To: All Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC Dealers

Attention: Dealer Operator, General Manager, Sales Manager,
Service Manager, Used Car Manager, Parts Manager
and Warranty Administrator

Based on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the media may report that General Motors will be announcing a noncompliance recall involving certain 2006 Cadillac SRX; 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT; 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Reg Cab; 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500, Colorado Crew Cab 2WD and Colorado Ext Cab 4WD; 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Reg Cab; 2007 GMC Canyon Reg Cab, Canyon Crew Cab and Canyon Ext Cab 4WD vehicles.

These vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 110, and Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 120 for displaying the tire rim designation. They have an incomplete tire rim designation on the Certification/Tire Label located on the driver's door edge. If a customer replaces a wheel and only relies on the rim size designation that is indicated on the label, a wheel that is of an incorrect rim contour designation may be installed. If a customer replaces a wheel with one that has a rim contour that is inappropriate for use with the tires on the vehicle, the mounting of the tire to the wheel and/or the tire/wheel assembly may not perform as designed/intended.

To correct this condition, dealers are to install a new partial label over the existing label. Because this label can easily be installed by the customer, and to reduce their inconvenience, corrected labels and application instructions will be mailed to customers of record. Dealers will receive labels for installation on the vehicles in inventory.

Approximately 3,200 vehicles are involved and GM is working with its suppliers to obtain the required labels as quickly as possible.

GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS) information for this recall will not be available until the recall bulletin is released to dealers.

Re: Noncompliance recall#06079 Vehicle Certification & Tire Pressure Label

I wonder if these are the vehicles have the custom GM rims?

I hope this doesn't just get swept under the table. I know many people who buy and change there own at home. I would hate to have people die over this. I hope this discussed fully so are Import Friends don't get mad.

Re: Noncompliance recall#06079 Vehicle Certification & Tire Pressure Label

So this is what, the label says "Rim Size : 16x7.5" instead of "Rim Type : 16x7.5JJ"?

Could this possibly be the smallest recall on record?

when you are dealing with the public you have to assume there are some maybe a lot of idiots out there. the car owers manuals have more legal talk than technical.

So...they're being recalled due to a mis-printed STICKER or somesuch. I officially proclaim this the STUPIDEST RECALL EVER.

Sarcasm noted...

GMI in order to keep the general public informed is going to report every instance of a GM recall, no matter how miniscule or minor as they seem.

In the past, sadly there have been many accusations thrown at us because we fail to report what recalls GM puts out...so if anyone feels it is terribly minor or far-reaching, reporting such minor recalls...too bad!

I do think this stuff should be posted. Keep up the good work.

I wonder what the 3,200 vehicles had in common.

Re: Noncompliance recall#06079 Vehicle Certification & Tire Pressure Label

this is funny. however wouldnt one just be able to check the size of the tires currently on their vehicles? thats the thing i would do. it seems the people that would need this type of sticker, are the people that wont be able to even place the sticker in the right spot. go figure.

has GMI ever deleted a recall that was posted? this isnt a government website dedicated to recalls. and its all based on someone voluntarily posting the recall on the board, so whos complaining. it seems like maybe the site they were visiting for their automotive news wasnt adequate, so they have to come to GMI for all their news, and are sour about it.
