Noncompliance recall #06077 Air Brake Application Valve Assembly-Medium Duty

GM SERVICE AND PARTS OPERATIONS
DCS1631
URGENT - DISTRIBUTE IMMEDIATELY

Date: August 10, 2006

Subject: Upcoming Noncompliance Recall 06077
Air Brake Application Valve Assembly

Models: 2006 Chevrolet 7500/8500 Kodiak and 7500/8500 T-Series
2006 GMC 7500/8500 TopKick and 7500/8500 T-Series
2006 Isuzu HVR, FVR and FXR

To: All Chevrolet, GMC and Isuzu Dealers

Attention: Dealer Operator, General Manager, Sales Manager,
Service Manager, Used Car Manager, Parts Manager
and Warranty Administrator

Based on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the media may report that General Motors will be announcing a noncompliance recall involving certain 2006 Chevrolet 7500/8500 Kodiak and 7500/8500 T-Series; GMC 7500/8500 TopKick and 7500/8500 T-Series; and Isuzu HVR, FVR, and FXR non-towing vehicles equipped with air brakes.

These vehicles fail to conform to Federal/Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 - Emergency Stopping Distance. An internal control and check valve within the air brake application valve assembly was configured improperly, preventing air from flowing through the brake system as designed. In the event of an emergency stop, the vehicle's stopping distance would be increased.

To correct this condition, dealers are to replace the air brake application valve assembly on C-Series vehicles, or reroute the air brake lines on T-Series vehicles.

Approximately 1,400 vehicles are involved and GM is working with its suppliers to obtain the required parts as quickly as possible. Customer notification is scheduled to begin on September 20, 2006.

GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS) information for this recall will not be available until the recall bulletin is released to dealers.

.......these vehicles are meant for commercial use . ....I don't think alot of readers here will be thinking about these vehicles. Also most places that use these vehicles have there own shop where routine bulletins are common

How many of these small volume recalls (not just GM, but all OEM's) never make it into the headlines?

Ah but this is a serious issue, when you need the truck to stop and it doesn't that isn't a good thing.

Probably the vast majority of them. These are "minor" recalls that are most often issued as TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins). While some of them are in fact threatening (ones such as this one) there severety is so small that the media would find little value in trumpeting them from the roof of every building.

Re: Noncompliance recall #06077 Air Brake Application Valve Assembly-Medium Duty

GMI in order to keep the general public informed is going to report every instance of a GM recall, no matter how miniscule or minor as they seem.

In the past, sadly there have been many accusations thrown at us because we fail to report what recalls GM puts out...so if anyone feels it is terribly minor or far-reaching, reporting such minor recalls...too bad!
