Re: Nissan recalls 650,000 cars

The years seem right. 2002-2006 means the recall cover the 2002-2004 Altima, the MCE 2005-2006 Altima, and the previous gen Sentra SE-R.

I guess Nissan fixed the problem in the QR25 for the new 2007 Altima and the new Sentra SE-R.

No, that recall was for the 1.8: crank position sensor, and insulation around the computer. My car was hit with that one.

You can't be serious! It is pretty much a given that ALL 2000-2003 3.5,4.0 & 4.6 Northstar Crank sensors will fail within the first 40,000-50,000 miles...

I don't know of a single owner of one of these cars who HASN'T had this problem... It is a 100% thing... Only a matter of time.

I guess my Northstar with 63,000 and my cousin who has owned multiple ones with 80,000-100,000 on them must be anomalies.

It does look like the first supplier did have a bunch of crappy units.

The 1993-1999 will last forever as will the late 2003 to current N*s...

But every 2000-early 2003 crank sensor will fail after a certain number of heat cycles... All of them! GM's internal memo's/TSBs document a shortage of these units in early 2005 as the 2000 and 2001 cars started to go.

Just like the Nissans they fail without warning in a scary random intermittent way. I personally had this problem on a 2000 Intrigue I bought new (under warranty) and on my 2002 STS. I have a few buddies with 2001 and 2002 STSs and all of them have had this issue. Some just inside the 4 year bumper to bumper some (me) just outside the bumper to bumper..

Re: Nissan recalls 650,000 cars

Back on topic please...this isn't about a Northstar failure...

Re: Nissan recalls 650,000 cars

Sorry about that,

But the question still stands... Who decides when to recall?
When you have two "groups" of cars doing exactly the same thing
Why does one manufacture recall their cars and another doesn't?

Is this something that the manufactures do volentarily or is this forced?

If the mods view this as another hi-jack, PM me, I'll delete this, and post the question in a separate thread.

No problem...

As I've learned...1: Government forces a recall, 2:so does the car maker when they themselves realize a part issue/failure on a grand scale...and decide to admit to the issue...
