Re: Nissan faces costly Altima, Sentra recall for Engine Fires

we will make the customer satisfied - whatever it takes," said Nissan spokesman Fred Standish in Nashville. "Fix it, repair it, replace it - whatever is necessary."

Never heard that from GM or F. Their story normally is 'suck it up...' or 'they all do that'.

So true, when I brough my alero in for the intake manifold gasket all they said was "people bring them in for that all the time"

and what do you think woulda happened to the engine in the alero if the gaskets were never fixed and all the coolant leaked out the car... It'll catch fire.

Friends who bought GM cars didn't have the repair bills that I had on my Altima ($2,700 for a tranny at 65K, over $2-3K for a valve job and other items at 100K). In fact, a corvette owner treated his car like crap with high speed driving, infrequent oil changes, etc and did nothing until replacing his clutch at 100K

Serves me right for listening to Consumer Reports!

Why would Nissan, a company that has it's act together want to mess around GM, that gang that the press says can't shoot straight? Maybe because Nissan is not a strong as they're portrayed.

Now this is a good reason for GM not to ally with Nissan.

I'm pretty sure (but if not, hopeful) that that was sarcasm.

Re: Nissan faces costly Altima, Sentra recall for Engine Fires

The hell with it, I'll settle it right now:

The issue is oil consumption. Fires only occured in rare cases. Just check and add some oil and it's fine. Cripes.

(Sits back and waits for others to completely ignore above statement.)

I hope you are not serious. That is one of the silliest responses I've heard. You think it is OK to buy a brand new car that sucks up oil because of bad rings and that one should just accept it? The issue is not just "oil consuption", it is excessive oil consumption. I wonder if these cars fail emissions tests. At least Nissan doesn't think like you do.

How did you obtain that gem from what I wrote? Perhaps I was unclear.

I didn't say just accept it. I said fires would be a non-issue if you just paid attention to the oil levels.

And yeah Nissan is willing to remedy the issue. So what is the problem?
