NHTSA Investigation into CSV Headlight Failures

NHTSA Investigation
Just heard on the news that the NHTSA is investigating a possible defect on the GM quadruplets regarding a possible electrical defect that could cause the headlights to fail unexpectedly. No recall yet, but with all the flickering lights reported , it probably isn't far behind. This affects the Relays as well as the Terrazas, SV6s, and Uplanders.

Well...seeing as no one here likes or cares about the so-called "sport vans", it's no shock to me. When an import has a recall next, they'll be back to get their jollies.

NHTSA Probes Windshield Wiper and Headlight Problem in Some GM Models

December 5, 2005
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched a preliminary safety investigation of the Chevrolet Uplander, Pontiac Montana SV, Saturn Relay and Buick Terraza because of a flaw that could cause the headlights to go out.

All of the vehicles in the investigation are from the 2005 model year.

NHTSA has received information that the actuating bar of the windshield wipers might cause damage or even cut a wiring harness that results in loss of the headlights.

In a related problem, General Motors issued a bulletin to dealers on February 21, 2005 warning that the wiper motor crank arm could contact an under-the-hood electrical center and "Some customers may report a stall and the no start condition after the wipers are used."

So if they do a recall, this affects what, 5 people?

GM still can't figure out how to build a vehicle without having a moving part damage a wiring harness / electrical pack? Sad.

Re: NHTSA Investigation into CSV Headlight Failures

Funny stuff people. But on a serious note it won't be so fun for me when customers start bringing the vans in. They sold very well for us this year.

One customer has already had his in for blinking headlights. He was driving one night and cars kept pulling over in front of him. He's not a happy camper.

P.S. I know the uplander won't win any beauty contests but that picture makes it look even worse.

NO, You misunderstood me. I do not find it funny that you have a problem with your vehicle. However, some of the other members comments were funny. ( 5 vans )You have a right to be frustrated. I would be as well.

So every time ONE person has a problem GM should recall the cars? Because that is what this is. Regardless of how the press makes it sound and the name of this thread, the NHTSA investigation notice says that have received one complaint. The cars have been out for over a year.

Re: NHTSA Investigation into CSV Headlight Failures

I`m sure there is more than one complaint....I`ve been back to the dealership with my second "CSV" more times than I care to admit, 5 alternators 1 PCM, 2 radios 2 DVD`s, 2 set of headlights lens`s.....etc. i have the Canada Transportation equivilant to NHTSA involved as well as my lawyers now....ironically I got a call from GM Head office the day this news broke....hmm?
