BFD.

It's not like Cadillac is some great exclusive brand; the DTS is a fancy version of the Lucerne, the Escalade was/is a Denali with Cadillac badges, the Cimmaron was a Cavalier with an emblem, the XLR uses a Vette platform, the CTS-V uses a Vette engine, and I could go on and on and on.

The point is, most huge companies share platforms and badge-engineer to save money. GM does, Toyota does, Ford DEFINATELY does (the whole Mercury line is just Fords with different grills)

No, what I meant is how they DEAL with the recall. Lexus has fewers recalls, and when they DO have them, they treat customers ROYALLY. They give them free loaner cars, bottles of champagne, no hassle.

With GM dealers, you have to fight tooth and nail to get them to even ACKNOWLEDGE that there is a recall. Unless you shove a TSB in their face, they often will say there's no problem...

thats a lot of BS coming from you. if its hard to get them to acknowledge a recall, why do they let it get blasted all over News when it happens? why did my dad get 6 memos in the mail from his buying dealer 200 miles away about tailgate cables a couple years ago?? Usually loaner cars are free and are given if it takes awhile to fix a problem. Or they at least courtesy shuttle you where you need to go.

Cadillac and Buick are way up there with Lexus in Quality. If anything, with the new version of Escalade.. I would not be suprised if Cadillac surpasses Lexus to be the #1 brand.
The old GMT 800's were pulling cadillac down.. Now with the new 900's.. Cadillac may to surpass Lexus

Re: Lexus recalls 57,000 cars

I'm with the crowd that thinks the manufacturers are pretty much the same across the board when it comes to problems-
1) Minor problem or few experiencing it, NO recall
2) Major possible problem but low report rate and no fix yet (or high cost to fix & low likelihood of the problem occurring or being noticed), NO recall
3) Major problem or minor problem with lots of people experiencing it & relatively affordable fix = recall

As far as the rebadging thing goes, you can't really compare GM rebadging a Caddy as a Buick to Toyota's rebadging a home market Toyota as a NA market Lexus. You could compare GM rebadging an Australian market Holden as a NA market Pontiac though. Basically, in the latter case, most of the bugs were worked out in the first version, so that the rebadge has few to report, and as far as the "new" audience is concerned, was high-quality from the start.

BTW, my numbered situations above pretty much includes why Toyota's sludgy engines were so hard to get addressed.
