Honda recalls 353K Accord sedans

Honda recalling 353,000 Accord sedans over corrosion in the windshield wiper motor

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Honda Motor Co. is recalling 353,000 Accord sedans over possible corrosion in the windshield wiper motor. Honda said Wednesday the recall involves Accords from the 2003 model year. The automaker says water could enter an area near the windshield wiper motor and cause corrosion.

Too bad it's not Toyota. I don't have nearly as much venom for Honda as I do for Toyota...Unless the Honda in question has a 6" fart pipe, a giant rear wing, and a pencil-neck geek behind the wheel with his hat on sideways.

I agree - It would be much nicer to see Toyota associated with the recall. But any of the Big 3 from Japan ain't half bad.

Re: Honda recalls 353K Accord sedans

As far as recalls go, this is for a very very minor piece of the car. It won't crash or fail to move because of something like this. ...and to fix it probably won't be too much of a task either... it's not like it's something that's buried in the depths of the car's construction.

...and yes, I have to agree, this is the first major (in terms of number of cars) recall that Honda has had in quite a while, to my recollection.

Absolutely agree!

Don't know why, but I too have far less venom reserved for Honda than Toyota. Illogical, perhaps. Maybe I just sense that they have more respect for America and Americans than does Toyota.

Unexplainable. Oh, well, just my .02

Re: Honda recalls 353K Accord sedans

Wasn't there a similar GM recall like 5 years ago?

I remember the GM recall being vaguely like if the car was turned off with the wipers not fully retracted, water could enter some openings and burn out stuff.

That was the first thing this Honda recall reminded me of.

From personal experience, I know at least Honda dealers have much more respect for their customers than Toyota dealers too. All of the dealings me or a family member has had with a Toyota dealer have left me with the impression that Toyota dealers think, "Oh, well, if you don't buy one of our cars, there are thousands of others that will, so go away or I shall taunt you a second time."

Probably why almost no one in my family drives a Toyota, even though we've all looked at Toyotas when car-shopping.

Actually there were 2 I can remember. The big GM one was for the circuit board. There was a problem with the soldering for the electronics if I remember right and it was on the trucks. The other one was the wiper transmission would break if it was put under strain, such as snow or maybe the wipers frozen to the windshield, that one on some of the cars, such as the Malibu and Cutlass.

Re: Honda recalls 353K Accord sedans

Make fun of Honda but realize this-when they see a problem they act on it-properly.
Unlike GM, which uses faulty steering components in many models and not only doesnt recall them but when we go in to get it repaired they put in the same faulty component!
From what I have heard the Impala, Malibu, Cobalt, Silverado, G6, Aura, and who knows how many other vehicles all have problems with the steering column and intermediate shafts. And when you finally get a dealer to admit a problem GM supplies them with the same POS Parts!
This issue alone is what will get me out of a GM vehicle on my next purchase.
GM just does not get it. Not now and I'm afraid not ever.
Honda and Toyota would never let a problem linger this long and we are talking years here.

Yes, it affected my mother's Envoy XL. The circuit board that operated the wipers wasn't sealed correctly and water would enter killing the board. The wipers would work intermediately at first and than not work at all.

So what about the POS transmissions that have been in Honda's for years??

It took Honda almost a decade to release a bulletin, a TSB no less, not a full recall, for the troublesome third gear that pops out, grinds, rejects shifts, and chews up syncros in all of its 6-speed manual transmissions.

American Honda STILL says they've never heard of this problem before. They have fought us for six years on this issue and have never once conceded until this TSB.

I'm definitely glad that my 20,000 mile car needs its transmission torn apart and overhauled so early in it's life.

This is the difference between a smart company and a dumb one: Honda realizes the negative backlash itw ould get in releasing a recall for the Civic Si and all other Honda/Acura vehicles with the 6MT, so they release a TSB, thereby insulating themselves against spending too much money on the problem and letting the public know about it.

Re: Honda recalls 353K Accord sedans

yeah I thought the same thing when I read his post... the Honda trannys that pop out of gear....

The Trail-Voys had a similar issue with water getting in on some vehicles motor- they were inspected and repaired if needed.
