Re: Honda to recall 561,594 Odysseys, CR-Vs, etc. for Burning/Melting Ignition, Injuries

I'm surprised it took so long for this to get recalled, the vehicles are quite old.

Before you get too excited, check the year:

Quote:
Of the total, 483,185 units are in Japan and were built between October 1994 and May 1997, Honda said in a filing with Japan's transport ministry.

Re: Honda to recall 561,594 Odysseys, CR-Vs, etc. for Burning/Melting Ignition, Injuries

500k for vehicles sold all over the country isn't bad. I actually liked Honda, but all of their new products look horrible which pushed me away. However, they do build quality cars. But everyone has problems now and then, and no I'm not defending Honda as I've stated the same thing after GM and Toyota have issued recalls.

It's likely this flaw takes many years to occur. This is true of most recalls of older vehicles.

Well they won't have to worry about many of them claiming the recall since most of the body on these cars have probably rotted away by now.

78,409 affected in North America. Why are recalls on this site reported half way around the world for Japanese automakers but no mention of recalls outside North America for GM and Ford. Am I imagining this or is it bias?

It's funny, really.

Some of you get on the bandwagon about insulting Honda, for example, when you've got even worse examples from GM under your nose.

1.) 1999-2005 Grand Am's with the 3.4L engine. The LIM is a problem for just about every single one of those cars, just ask the Grand Am Owner's Club board. There was never a recall for this, and I'm guessing GM would be dying even faster if there were, considering it affects just about every one of them.

2.) 2005-2006 G6's -- steering lockups. No dealership that I've heard of yet can replicate or find the origin of the lock ups found in the 3500 engine. This is quite possibly one of the most dangerous things I can think of. The G6 Owners Club had members posting about driving down the freeway, when the steering froze up. They lifted themselves up off the seat, and the wheel didn't budge. Imagine if you went around a corner with that? GM has received complaints up the ass about this, and there hasn't been one answer or measure to resolve it.

At least Honda owns up to their issues.

I've been noticing it, too.
