Honda to recall 561,594 Odysseys, CR-Vs, etc. for Burning/Melting Ignition, Injuries

Honda to recall 561,594 cars at cost of $24 mln Wed Jun 14, 2:22 AM ET

Japan's Honda Motor Co. (7267.T) said on Wednesday it would recall and repair a combined 561,594 units of the Odyssey, CR-V and Step Wgn models globally to fix a faulty ignition switch that could cause the engine to stop.

The recall and repairs would cost the company around 2.73 billion yen ($23.70 million), a spokeswoman said.

Of the total, 483,185 units are in Japan and were built between October 1994 and May 1997, Honda said in a filing with Japan's transport ministry.

Most of the recalls outside Japan cover the Odyssey minivan sold in North America. No accidents were reported overseas, while five people in Japan suffered burns from contact with melted ignition switches.

Re: Honda to recall 561,594 cars

Honda must be slipping with the Odyssey with this recall on top of the tranny recall to install an oil cooler to prevent the failure of second gear(doens't necessarily work because it has the same tranny as the 2nd gen TL and they still fail).

Guys, quit being so negative! This is Honda's new initiative at increasing fuel economy... how much fuel does a vehicle that shuts itself off consume? None! Go Honda!

Not that I really want to defend them, but we weren't just flat out 'told' by Honda that their cars were reliable. It's been proven over the years... Honda builds a quality automobile. The can slip-up too, of course, but if I didn't dislike their styling or prefer to buy a North American brand I'd have no problem buying one.

Re: Honda to recall 561,594 cars

Honda has a history of ignition recalls. This is at least the second one. Just goes to show that their cars aren't immune to recalls, either.

I'm with you there! I wish they still made the previous gen 2 door accord.
