I didn't realize they had sold that many.

Re: Honda RECALL of 43,000 Acura RL's

I love the TL and the TSX, but I really don't like the RL. I don't think it is good looking at all, in any respect. Why anyone would buy it in place of another car in Acura's line up, or even another brand, is beyond me.

I'm just getting sick of these recalls from all car companies. Little things I can handle, but when they are such crucial elements of the car, the brakes, headlights, pumps, et cetera, it really upsets me. This is unacceptable from any car company and I find it careless.

I own a TL Type S and for the most part it has been a very good car (6 yrs old, 70,000 miles).

What primarily scared me off of the RL a while back was Car & Driver's long term test of the RL - it had more problems than any other car in recent memory that wasn't a VW. Absolutely unacceptable, especially in a car at that price.

Re: Honda RECALL of 43,000 Acura RL's

For what it's worth, I think Honda and Toyota's quality hay-day is over. If the Civic is any representation of residual quality in a car, I've yet to see it. Yes, the material LOOKS and FEELS nice, but in the long run, the only two concerns I have about the interior is that it looks nice and is assembled properly (aligned), and that the material is high quality. The Civic is all but the former. I've had more trips to the dealership with my Civic than all my used GM cars combined. There is one glaring issue mechanically with the car and that is the third gear. The rest of my issues are just related to poor quality: rattles, squeaks, wear, tear, the like.

I'd be willing to pay more for a car if they chose to use better materials, and focused not on putting as many cars off the assembly line a day possible, but rather concern for each passing car.

Re: Honda RECALL of 43,000 Acura RL's

The same thing happened to my parents' Sable many years ago. Dad was pulling into a parking space when smoke suddenly started rolling in through the vents.

Fortunately, there was a case of soda in the trunk. I'll never forget watching my dad as he frantically dumped can after can of Diet Coke into the flaming engine compartment. He managed to put out the fire, and the car was back on the road after replacing the line and some charred wiring. It didn't smell too good for a while though; it took about a week for all the residual steering fluid and soda to burn off.

Who would have thought that a simple Honda product would be recalled. What, they have like 2 or 3 Chassis' and a couple different engines, with variations of them spread from everything from small cars to pseudo-pickups. Keep it simple, right?

Having owned 1979, 1988, 1993 and 2002 Accords, I agree completely.

Re: Honda RECALL of 43,000 Acura RL's

Damn I thought this recall would have involved the Electronic Brake Distribution w/ brake assist where the RL automatically brakes for you in the event it feels your approaching an obstacle too quickly. Oh well.

Another fire problem for a Honda vehicle. Although this is a small recall its still a big issue for Honda in my opinion.

What's even more unacceptable is a car w/ an MSRP starting at over 46k w/ no V8 and a 3.5L 290hp V6 that is only a slightly modified version of the engine powering the Accord. I have a friend who swears by Acura, he and his wife last year bought an MDX. He gets mad when I tell him that Acura to most enthusiasts is considered only a pseudo luxury car and will probably remain that way until Honda starts stepping up to the plate and creating more distance between Honda and Acura. I mean yota is begining to do it w/ Lexus why not Honda.
