GMP06-153 - Noncompliance Recall #06054 Intermittent Air Brake Check Valve Leak

Subject:GMP06-153 - Noncompliance Recall #06054 Intermittent Air Brake Check Valve LeakMessage #:VSU20061200
  • DESCRIPTION:
    NONCOMPLIANCE RECALL #06054 – JULY 12, 2006
    • General Motors has decided that certain 2006 Chevrolet Kodiak and T-Series; GMC TopKick and T-Series; and Isuzu FVR and FXR vehicles equipped with air brakes fail to conform to Federal/Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121, Air Brake System. The brake systems on these vehicles have a check valve that, at times, may not seat properly, creating an internal air leak. This leakage can cause a delay in the application of the spring brakes when the operator pulls the dash valve button. If the vehicle is on an uneven surface, it could result in unintended vehicle movement and a possible vehicle crash. This condition does not affect normal service braking.
    • Dealers are to inspect the air brake park control valve, and if necessary, replace the valve.
    • Refer to Noncompliance Recall Bulletin #06054 for further information.

    EFFECTIVE DATE:
Initial owner mailing is scheduled to begin: 7-19-06

    GENERAL INFORMATION:
Parts required to complete this recall are to be obtained from General Motors Service and Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

This is one of the things which I applaud GM for, even when they issue a lot of recalls they tend to be small issues and are usualy not covered up for a long time. They tend to recall it as soon as they know of a problem.

Like this, while any brake issue is serious, this only effects the parkng brake, and by delay, likely means a second or two. But it's good that they recalled it, fixing issues before they become too bad. Good job GM!

Well, we've been accused of only reporting competitive manufacturer recalls and not those of GM, keeping them "hush-hush"...

I for one will start posting GM's official recalls and service policies for as long as I have that capability, no matter how trivial or minute... So what if it is for medium duties...it's a recall and it will get reported as such...

It's because recalls are front page news...

I posted 3 recalls, two from July for reasons I expressed earlier in this thread...
