GM Recalls Trucks Over Engine Fire Concerns/ #06080

GM recalls trucks over engine fire concerns

Hoping to avoid its own version of the Ford truck fire fiasco (pictured), General Motors and the NHTSA are ordering the recall of 38,439 General Motors SUVs and pickups because of a potential fuel leak that could result in an engine compartment fire. GM is recalling the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche, 2004-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500, 2006 Chevrolet Kodiak, 2004-2006 Chevrolet Silverado, 2004-2005 Chevrolet Suburban, 2006 Chevrolet Suburban 1500, 2004-2006 GMC Sierra, 2006 GMC Topkick 6500, and 2004-2006 GMC Yukon XL.

Eh, this is a repost, right?

Just like the Ford recall, this is a serious recall that should be discussed.

This is the recall, for 8100's...

Subject:Product Safety Recall 06080
Fuel Rail Pulse Damper Retainer Clip
Message #:WIR20060329
GM SERVICE AND PARTS OPERATIONS
DCS1629
URGENT - DISTRIBUTE IMMEDIATELY

Date: August 3, 2006

Subject: Product Safety Recall 06080
Fuel Rail Pulse Damper Retainer Clip

Models: 2004-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado,
Suburban
2004-2006 GMC Sierra, Yukon XL
2006 Chevrolet Kodiak
2006 GMC Topkick
Equipped with 8.1L Engine (RPO L8 – VIN G)
V8 Engine

To: All Chevrolet and GMC Dealers

Attention: Dealer Operator, General Manager, Sales Manager,
Service Manager, Used Car Manager, Parts Manager
and Warranty Administrator

Based on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the media may report that General Motors will be announcing a safety recall involving certain 2004-2006 model year Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban; GMC Sierra, Yukon XL; 2006 Chevrolet Kodiak and 2006 GMC TopKick model vehicles equipped with 8.1L V8 (RPO L18 - VIN G) engine.

Some of these vehicles have a condition in which the engine fuel rail pulse damper retainer clip may fracture, resulting in inadequate retention of the damper. If the damper comes loose, a fuel leak may result.

To correct this condition, dealers are to replace the engine fuel rail pulse damper retainer clip.

Approximately 51,000 vehicles are involved and GM is working with its suppliers to obtain the required parts as quickly as possible. Customer notification is scheduled to begin in August, 2006.

GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS) information for this recall will not be available until the recall bulletin is released to dealers.

I think this is very important to let people know. I had no idea and started to worry until I saw it was for the 8.1 engine. These guys don't need to be so cranky....nobody's posting this thread to knock GM...

So this is just for the 8.1? I shouldn't have to worry about my 2004 Chevy Suburban 2500 with the 6.0 bursting into flames, correct?

i read it the same as u did, so im assuming not.

i think GM is handling it very well. however engine fires, come on guys this shouldnt happen. at least its not a huge recall, and im kinda glad that GM has a recall. bc im interested in how the media will handle this compared with the other Toyota recalls as of late.

I agree that Ford took to long to recall some of the vehicles affected by the cruise control switch.

What's there to discuss, potential fire, if you have one of these trucks take it to the dealer and see if there is a possible hazzard. Done.

Hmm, there seems to be plenty discussion of Ford and Toyota recalls on a GM site, but there is nothing to discuss about a GM recall on a GM site? I know you're new to the site, but I am surprised at the argument that recalls (auto news) shouldn't be discussed on an automotive discussion forum. I can't believe I even have to argue that GM recalls should be posted on a GM auto site.

Thank you Tiburon! There is a lot of hush hush going on when GM has a recall and it is all out party time when a foreign or other domestic has a recall.

Do you expect anything less at GMI? To be honest, GMI is a strange place. It seems that all the new people that join are gun slinging, cool-aid drinking, foreign hating, diehard GM fans. Then as time goes on, they soften up to the point where they go out & buy a VW or Toyota. I think that people are more critical of GM because of this site than those that aren't.

Re: GM Recalls Trucks Over Engine Fire Concerns/ #06080

What is it lately with cars and engine fires? First Ford trucks, then the DCX LX cars (recalled a couple months ago due to engine fires) now this? The fire is supposed to stay INSIDE the engine guys! It goes inside those little round holes in the middle of the motor, in there, not outside!
