GM Recalls Pontiac Vibe For Glass Defect

I'm still awaiting GM's release, but thanks yet again to kw83028 for the heads up!~GMCSonoma

GM Recalls Pontiac Vibe For Glass Defect

122,593 Cars Recalled In United StatesWASHINGTON -- General Motors Corp. is recalling 122,593 Pontiac Vibe passenger cars in the United States to fix bolts in the power window system that can become loose and lead to the window shattering.

Details of the recall were released Thursday. It's similar to a recall of more than 500,000 2003-2004 model year Toyota Corolla and Matrix vehicles announced Wednesday.
The vehicles share a common platform and are built in a GM-Toyota joint venture in Fremont, Calif.
GM said it received 107 complaints of glass breaking and 11 reports of minor injuries. There have been no crashes reported.

Re: GM Recalls Pontiac Vibe For Glass Defect

Sounds more like a Toyota problem than a GM problem. The cars are Toyota designed and mostly Toyota parts. If Isuzu or Saab had to recall a vehicle designed and built by GM, would it be their fault or GM's fault? 80% of the recalls are Toyota vs 20% GM.

I just don't understand why GM is even dealing with Toyota on building cars. What could they possibly gain from this?

"The Pontiac Vibe, designed and built by TOYOTA, is having extreme quality and reliability issues..."

Sor, just starting an article like most "journalists" would...Except you need to subsitute Toyota for GM...I always love how they call out GM if one of their global brands has an issue, but never call them out for owning, funding and building great cars at one of those global brands. It is a "German Opel from Europe" if it a great car, but a "GM-built car" if it has problems...! Oh, how the media tries to demonize GM...

I agree that there's probably little to gain now from partnering with Toyota, but to be clear, one of the main reasons why GM's manufacturing processes are vastly improved from the 1980's is because they learned the Toyota Way right there in Fremont, CA. That was probably one of GM's best investments, actually; a relatively low-cost investment that has paid gigantic returns.

Does this affect cars here in Canada?

We already knew this was coming. GM stop having Toyota build the Vibe! You can do it!!! They build boring cars and you have them build a car a part of the excitement division? I don't get it??

You couldn't be more correct. The headline for MSN was GM recalling Pontiac Vibe. It doesn't matter what the article says after that- the damage is done.

Re: GM Recalls Pontiac Vibe For Glass Defect

In the Toronto Star the article was titled, GM and Toyota recall 700,000 cars. I'm surprised they didn't leave Toyota out of the altogether but it looks like they made an effort to make it look like GM was the more guilty partry.

You guys are so paranoid aren't you? Here is the headline from CNN:

"Toyota Recalls Corollas, Matrixes On Window Problem"

http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/...1_FORTUNE5.htm

Look! the media is trying to make toyota look bad too!

some things people say on here are unbelievable. They're just reporting the news.
