Re: GM Recalls Pontiac Vibe For Glass Defect

That's what GM gets for selling rebadged Toyotas. I'm as big of a GM supporter as you will find, but I say serves them right.

Re: GM Recalls Pontiac Vibe For Glass Defect

Recalls like this no longer affect companies like they once did, there not seen as weaknesses. Their seen by most as doing the right thing. Only diehard fans of one company use it to prove that their stuff is better than the others. GM got a great car by "rebadging" a toyota. Its one of the few bright spots at pontiac lately, I see a ton of vibes on the road.

Re: GM Recalls Pontiac Vibe For Glass Defect

So, four to five years after these cars were manufactured a recall is done on something that "could" happen. Hmmm.....
At least it is being corrected for safety's sake. I think the simple fact that the companies are being proactive - GM or Toyo - is awesome for public safety.

Subject: Upcoming Safety Recall 07273
Window Regulator Bolts

Models: 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe
Equipped with Power Windows

To: AllPontiacDealers

Attention: Dealer Operator, General Manager, Sales Manager, Service
Manager, Used Car Manager, Parts Manager and Warranty

Based on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the media may report that General Motors will be announcing a safety recall involving all 2003-2004 model year Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with power windows.

On some of these vehicles, bolts in the front door that attach the window to the window regulator may begin to loosen, resulting in a popping or clicking sound when the window is operated. If either bolt continues to loosen and separates from the window regulator, the glass may shatter during window operation.

To correct this condition, dealers are to replace the window regulator bolts in both front doors.

A total number of 122,593 vehicles are involved. Based on expected parts availability, GM anticipates releasing the recall bulletin and mailing customer notification letters in late May 2008.

Please see the attached Q&A document for more details.

GMVIS information will not be available for this recall until the recall bulletin is released to dealers.

Has anybody actually seen this happen? I've got a friend who has a Vibe so I'll send him this info.

Re: GM Recalls Pontiac Vibe For Glass Defect

At the time I was not aware of any defects (apparently neither was the auto maker). I own a '04 VIBE. It is very scary when it shatters. Fortunately, I was pulling out of a drive through and had not entered traffic. I pressed the control to roll up the window (driver's side), heard a weird pop and the window shattered.

The Pontiac Vibe OUTSELLS the Toyota Matrix.

What does GM gain from dealing with Toyota on building cars??

They have customers they wouldnt have if they didnt sell the Vibe. and to be honest the Vibe looks way better than the Matrix.

Re: GM Recalls Pontiac Vibe For Glass Defect

I think the Vibe was always one of Pontiac's nicer looking cars. It was ALWAYS more attractive than the Matrix counterpart, even now. (especially now).

What I can't stop shaking my head about is that some of you piss and moan at others for being critical of GM, and now you're being the critical ones over the fact that the Vibe was a joint GM/Toyota venture.

Frankly, this is a relatively small problem compared to the grand scheme of potential recalls...

It's a small problem indeed, why bash GM for dealing with Toyota? I drive a Pontiac Vibe and i'm quite happy, very reliable compared to my 00' Grand Am V6 in which the lower intake gasket failed at 29,000 miles... (an "all GM" car and a worse problem).
