It's called $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

The cables are cheaper than steel.

Re: GM Recalls 900,000 pickup trucks

Its probably costing them more having to replace the cables twice than it would to have put those metal strap hinges on in the first place!
and if thats too much why not use galvanized small chains?

I agree. Never heard of many problems with those. Cost is obviously the issue there, not mechanics.

Re: GM Recalls 900,000 pickup trucks

the first tailgate cable recall was for late 2000 and up models. Therefor, these arent the same trucks the recall is for, so they arent replacing the ones they did last year. These are for 99-mid 2000, I ASSUME its for both NBS and OBS of those years.

GM should have applied the recall to all model years that used the same type cables the first time around and then issuing a second recall could have been avoided.
You're right. I don't mean to make light of the situation. It just seems some of the posts have escalated beyond what's reasonable.

It's a freaking tailgate cable. Look up the problems Toyota is having with their suspensions on their trucks. C'mon.

If it was a stereo knob anti GM people would still make a big deal about it.

Car companies have recalls. Every car company does. There are more GM trucks out there than probably anything in the world.

Come on. Give me a break. I don't agree with Plane all the time but that's a rediculous comment.

I think it was more a rattle issue than a dollar issue.

I really like how GM splits up their recalls into smaller less noticeable ones.

Re: GM Recalls 900,000 pickup trucks

I had my cables replaced -now they show between the tailgate and the taillight--give me the ''old'' steel straps--on my old 70 GMC there was a small rubber block that kept them from rattling
