GM Recalls 900,000 pickup trucks

Is this old news? I remember a recall previously for this same problem..

GM recalls over 900,000 pickup trucks
Cables that support the tailgate have corroded, causing 84 mostly minor injuries.
March 10, 2006: 11:31 AM EST

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - General Motors is recalling over 900,000 pickups worldwide due to instances of tailgate cables corroding and snapping, a GM spokesman said Friday

The recall hits Chevrolet's Silvarado and GMC's Sierra pickup lines. Most of those affected, 805,368, are in the U.S.

The spokesman said the galvanized steel cables were protected with a plastic coating. But water has been found to get in the coating and cause the cable to corrode and snap when the tailgate is down.

GM said there have been 84 injuries, most of them minor scrapes and bumps.

Owners will receive letters in April and the tailgate cable will be replaced with a stainless steel cable.

Re: GM Recalls 900,000 pickup trucks

I thought this was taken care of already, I can't believe they had to recall another nearly million pickups for the same reason. It appears that the previous recall affected 1.4Million 2002-2004 Pickups while this recall is aimed at the '99-2000 models.

Sounds like this one of those, "Well, we used the part for six years, but most of the complaints were in only four of those model years, so let's just recall the ones with the complaint and ignore the other ones which used the same part". But then they eventually had to recall the others as well.

Sure, but not nearly as bad as the crappy brakes in the Silverado / Sierra.

Re: GM Recalls 900,000 pickup trucks

too bad this didn't happen a month ago. It is nice that it is older trucks. That could help drive sales with the good savings that are available in my region.

Re: GM Recalls 900,000 pickup trucks

The original recall of 4.1 million was done in 3 stages in an attempt to not run out of parts. This one is separate as other model years have also been having problems.

Re: GM Recalls 900,000 pickup trucks

They recalled my tailgate cables over a year ago. I just got a new recall notice from GM for corrosion that can occur between the front hub/bearing assembly and the wheel speed sensor - which apparently can cause unwanted anti-lock brake activation.

The newest recall applies to Silverados in "severe corrosion areas" like the midwest where they salt roads, not martinis.
