Re: Chrysler recalls 600,000 Dodge trucks

Good catch on the '09 Ram. Autoblog says it's on Dodge's site. And (as of right now), it is. Anyone want to see how long it takes before the site gets "updated"?

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/12/09/c...he-real-thing/

Plus, I like it. I might actually be looking at that truck when they go on sale.

If you look closely, you can see the front of the rear suspension. It doesn't arch like leaf springs. The rumor of coil springs in the rear looks to be true.

Re: Chrysler recalls 600,000 Dodge trucks

Given that trucks are the only real jewel in the current Dodge line-up, that will likely give potential Chrysler group buyers pause. I recently bought my first Chrysler product in my life, a 2002 PT Crusier. (Hey, I needed cargo space, mpg for cheap. Vue's were my next best choice but they were $5 more.) It has 50,000 miles on it. I drove it maybe 2,000 miles and I lost the tranny. The $2500 it cost me nearly made up the price difference between it and a Vue. Grrrrrr.

Is this a problem with the tranny itself, or the external shift linkage?

Found it on autoblog. Didn't see it anywhere else on GMI, but when I tried to start a new thread it didn't let me. Hope it's not a repost.
Wow, sure wish the Silverado showed some of that aggression. The new Ram is sharp, they toned down the bloated big rig look, but kept the attitude. Nice!

I guess I am the only one that thinks of it as much of the same as the outgoing model. So I don't have much love for it.

Stinks on the luck of Chrysler lately, but with some of the products they have it is bound to happen. It is sad nonetheless, they are better then that.

My grandma's 90 Buick went out of park rolled down a hill and I had to steer up a curb and onto another hill for it to stop. Crazy POS.

Re: Chrysler recalls 600,000 Dodge trucks

No, please don't buy them from GM, I have had trouble with 3 in the last year. 96 Lumina and 00 GTP both lost their transmissions (and they ARE NOT cheap to get rebuilt in these things) and the low mileage regal we bought to replace the Lumina (after it got shipped to the boneyard) and now only has 80k miles already has a slipping transmission, so no thanks......

You do realise that there is a difference between FWD and RWD transmissions no?

Re: Chrysler recalls 600,000 Dodge trucks

Well, That is just my peronal experiences in the last couple years, i know the F-bodies and B-Bodies were terribly for blowing out transmissions, so again, no thanks. Not to mention basically all the transmissions are going to be new units in the next couple of years. Also, starting in 04 the Rams and Dakotas got a new 6 speed manual transmission not related to the 5 speed in the 01-02 trucks that were recalled.....

That's all anecdotal evidence and not statistical proof.

We are talking specifically here about heavy duty RWD truck transmissions and GM has some of the best in the industry.

Re: Chrysler recalls 600,000 Dodge trucks

That is anecdotal evidence also, show me where it actually states in statistics that the GM manuals (wait, is there even one offered now?) is better than the 6 speeds currently in the Rams? Also the HD Rams got a new 6 speed auto along with their 6 speed manual for 07, so????? You did the same thing you just blamed me of doing. I understand because you are a GM fan, they automatically have better everything, right?

Ummm....you are on a GM fan site what do you expect?

Secondly, manual transmission trucks don't sell well. So GM stopped making them. Die hards complained but the general public keeps on buying more GM trucks.

GM outsells Dodge in truck sales by about o 400,000 or more a year no?

Also, let us remember that as far as automatics go, whether FWD or RWD, GM has a much better record then Chrysler Group.

Re: Chrysler recalls 600,000 Dodge trucks

I am sorry, GM transmission, especially FWD have a pretty dismal record and FYI, I drive a GM vehicle or 3 right now. i like them, but their trannies are not that great as far as reliability goes. I have had all 3 domestic brands and none of them have great transmissions, though I will say the Chrysler transmissions have give the LEAST trouble.

Well all I can say to you at this point is that Chrysler is doing the recall not GM so that pretty much sums it up.
