Chrysler recalls 600,000 Dodge trucks

Dodge Trucks Recalled

WASHINGTON (AP) — Chrysler LLC said Friday it is recalling nearly 600,000 Dodge trucks and vans to address concerns that the vehicles could shift out of park without the key in the ignition.

The recall affects 576,417 2001-2002 Dodge Dakota trucks, Dodge Durango sport utility vehicles and Dodge Ram vans and the 2002 Dodge Ram pickup. In some cases, long-term wear on the gearshift assembly could erode the height of the shift blocker, creating the potential for the vehicle to shift out of park.

Chrysler spokesman Max Gates said there have been nine incidents involving injuries connected to the issue. No fatalities have been reported, he said in an e-mail.

My 1996 Chrysler Cirrus had the same problem. It was fixed under recall, though.

No kidding! My son's Chrysler 5-spd manual went out in his 96' Eagle Talon last in October. We purchaced a "Chrysler" re-manfd trans which Chrysler covers for 3 years or 80,000 miles. Its a good thing we got the warranty because Chrysler had to install 4 transmissions (car was inop for 3 weeks)until they finally got one that functioned correctly. And now that one is starting to make some awful noises!

Speaking off Dodge's full-size trucks....

Is this the new one?

Found it on autoblog. Didn't see it anywhere else on GMI, but when I tried to start a new thread it didn't let me. Hope it's not a repost.

WOW. The boys at Cerberus must love waking up every morning and wondering what today will bring.

Seriously though, that is bad news for Dodge and its reputation.

And if that is the new Dodge posted above, I like the way it looks. A nice evolutionary progression from the previous generations.
