Chrysler To Recall 212,000 Vehicles

WASHINGTON -- Chrysler is recalling more than 212,000 Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger passenger cars to fix an electrical problem that could lead to engine stalling and other issues.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall involves 2007-2008 Sebrings and Avengers with standard tire pressure monitoring systems.

Uh oh...more bad news for these cars. When are they going to be put out of their misery?

Watch the language..

Anyway, these cars are just falling apart. Sebring has a long history of just garbage cars. At least now the car is on one platform, not 2 or 3 different types.

I wouldn't say that the Sebring was ever garbage, the first generation was a Chrysler Convertible, and a Mitsubishi Coupe, from what I know, they weren't as bad as some of GM's offerings of the time. The next gen. had problems with the 2.7 V6, and a few tranny issues. Now, I like the Pontiac G6 and all, but its not that great either, and when a G6 is better than one of Chrysler's offerings, Chrysler has some issues.

I mostly agree with your assessment, but I think the current (2004 and up) Epsilon's were way ahead of the last gen 'cloud cars', and probably still ahead of the new versions, too. (I will find out soon, one of my buddies here at work just purchased a new Sebring...) It's just that the Epsilons are all pretty middle of the road, i.e. nothing really special in terms of engineering features. But they are solid, good values.

I've felt that Mopar has always had a good (but not flashy) compact car line at different times. Of course there were the poorly assembled Volare/Aspens and the generic K-Cars, but for the most part the intervening Chrysler compacts were solid little machines. It's too bad that in the last version of the Sebring/Cirrus with the 2.7 V6 was so bad, but we have the 3.1's & 3.4's with almost the same problem! The 2.7 equipped cars would have been a good compromise of power and economy, if the engines weren't so problematic.

I don't really care for the styling of the new Sebrings (but I have no room to talk, I have the last-gen Malibu and two Azteks before that!), but the few I have seen in person (not driven) have seemed reasonably well assembled. I do like the Avenger sedan in the SXT and R/T versions and those have AWD and a flex fuel motor available (not in the same car, tho).

I wish I could say the same for ANY GM mid-size car. None of the Epsilons really have anything comparable.

Chrysler has had issues, for a long time now. poor quality is just one of them. actually, it seems inconsistent quality is a better way to put it. when i was at the Chrysler place (short lived, mind you) it wasn't any surprise to see a Neon with several hundred thousand trouble free miles on it, but it was also just as common to see one that was nothing but trouble. the story seemed to be much the same with all of their models. you'd have some people that would swear by their minivans, and some people that would swear they'll never buy one again. it didn't matter, Rams, Wranglers, Sebrings, they all seemed to be a mixed bag as far as quality goes. i don't know if it's a factory issue or engineering, supplier, what, but it's an issue for sure. as long as Chrysler's quality issues plague them, they're going to be a tough sell. i wish they'd get their crap together, they have had some intriguing cars, but i'll never buy one with their record.

Re: Chrysler To Recall 212,000 Vehicles

Too bad to hear about the recall. I would like to see Chrysler finally get out of the hole sometime soon.

The Sebring/Avenger isn't as bad as some make it out to be, but for the same price you can get a much more attractive vehicle. The Avenger R/T is okay, but the mini Charger styling isn't all that great.
