Another Tundra Recall...

Automotive News
December 14, 2007 - 12:35 pm ET

Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. is recalling 15,600 2007 Toyota Tundra pickups because a transmission part could break.

Toyota says the rear propeller shaft on four-wheel-drive Tundras could separate at a joint. No accidents or injuries have been reported resulting from the faulty shaft.

“The front joint on the rear driveshaft may have been improperly heat treated by our supplier,” a Toyota spokesman said. “In the worst case, the shaft may separate at the joint.”

Toyota discovered the flaw after a customer complained of abnormal noises coming from the shaft.

Owners of the recalled trucks will receive a notification in the mail starting late this month, Toyota said in a statement today.

Re: Faulty part prompts Toyota to recall 15,600 Tundras

Yeah, I just read that on automotivenews.com.

So, it's another drivetrain-related issue for the Tundra. Not great news for Tundra owners. I wonder how many Tundra issues it will take to affect resale value?

As long as Toyota technicians don't lay the replacement shaft on the Tundra's tailgate, the repair should go smoothly.

"a customer"? I'll bet it took more than one customer with a problem before an investigation was launched. It would also take GM or anyone else more than one instance of a problem before investigating.

My point is that this is a good example of how things can be spun with simple wording or "accuracy oversights". "a customer" makes them sound hyper responsive to any problems with their vehicles.

well i don't want anything to go wrong with anyones purchase of any amount of money, especially a vehicle! If something goes wrong and someone died, imagine if that was your sister, brother, mother, father? Its frightful! At the same time, I won't shed any tears for a stranded tundra owner on the side of the interstate hwy, they should've bought a Silverado/Sierra/Fseries!

I'm sure they took action after "a customer" complained. Never mind that about 500 customers complained well before that one.

So worst case the spinny part that supplies your vehicles go-motion isn't connected to the end that puts that go-motion to the road. Whew. And here I thought this would actually be a genuine concern! Nothing to see here, folks. Go on ahead home... and make sure you separate the shaft joint in your transmission... I get the impression it's actually better that way.

Engine (camshaft or crankshaft, I forget), frame (welds), body (tailgate), and transmission problems. That all?

I can see the recall... errrr voluntary callback... errrr customer service... errr goodness of their hearts notice... "We kindly asks you to bring your Tundra in to the dealership so that we can give you the shaft!"

Okay, that's enough out of me.
