Another Toyota Recall: 05 Avalon

Link: http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/050523/autos_recalls.html?.v=1
Quote:
DETROIT (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling about 4,900 of its 2005 model-year Avalon sedans in the United States to fix a defect in the steering wheel column that could result in a loss of control of the vehicle, the company and U.S. safety regulators said on Monday.

"A portion of the steering column assembly may not have been welded correctly," Toyota spokesman John McCandless said.

The recall is another blow for the world's second-largest automaker, which last week recalled about 880,000 sport utility vehicles and pickups worldwide due to a defect in the front suspension that could hamper steering.

Toyota is a perennial leader in quality among mainstream automakers.

I wonder if my pal at Toyota will blame North American workers for this too?

Re: Another Toyota Recall: 05 Avalon

I love how Toyota recalls are always extremely dangerous:

Pontiac G6 Recalled for Wrong Spelling, may result in mispelling of words when teaching young child to read owner's manual.

Toyota Avalon Recalled for faulty steering column, may result in loss of control of vehicle which may result in death.

...HMMMM which would I rather own?

And not enough publicized. I wonder if we will see and hear and endless echo of this recall all over the media, like when it is GM or Ford recalling.

Thumbs down Re: Another Toyota Recall: 05 Avalon

WOW A steering column does anyone think that this is important? Nah, you can still drive it can't you? Toyota has really gone down-hill as of late!

Interesting thought. Does anyone know where all the vehicles recalled by Toyota recently were built?

Re: Another Toyota Recall: 05 Avalon

as much as it pains me to see potentially dangerous vehicles leaving the factories, i must smirk a little that toyota is having these problems. This is what happens when you try to expand your market share too fast, you can't keep as tight a control on everything.

Agree, whenever Ford or GM have recalls it is all over my local paper's auto section (Newsday's 'Wheels' : www.newsday.com/cars ). Then I tried to e-mail the writer of that section, but there is no e-mail or phone number I can call. Their website and esentially their section is just advertising, with some lame articles from the Assosiated Press (Against Ford and GM).

Re: Another Toyota Recall: 05 Avalon

This is beautiful...'Another Toyota Recall'...how about 50,000 GM recalls? When GM recalls vehicles, it is okay...when Toyota does it, it is horrible. How bad can GM fans get?

And I suppose you see the media publically talking about the GM/Ford recall every single minute?

With problems already being reported from the G6 Convertible, I bet we can expect that to be a 'crappy' car, right: eh uujjj?

That's a relief! I'm glad they tacked that on the end, there. Otherwise, there might be a risk of people losing a bit of their Toyota-God perception.

I'm going to be whispering thanks to Toyota's 'perennial reliability' when grandmother flies into a guard rail on her new Avalon.
