470,000 Ford Mustangs To Be Recalled

DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. said it is recalling 470,000 Ford Mustangs from the 2005-2008 model years to update passenger side front-airbag software.

Ford spokesman Wesley Sherwood said internal testing showed the air bag could injure a small, unbelted passenger.

Re: 470,000 Ford Mustangs To Be Recalled

I had problems with the airbag system on my 2008 Impala LTZ (purchased new).

The chime sounded and the DIC displayed, "Service Air Bag".

The dealer repaired wiring and reprogramed the computer according to a TSB. I wonder if the 2008 Impalas will be recalled?

Ford isn't the only manufacturer to sell cars with an airbag safety defect.

Re: 470,000 Ford Mustangs To Be Recalled

It's the person's fault if they don't have their seat belt on, not Ford's Fault, the safety system on any vehicle is programmed for the use of safety restraints, if they aren't using them, that is their bad, This is a bull crap recall, I don't care what manufacturer it is.

Wow, that was harsh. Not that I don't agree with you, or would have put it any differently.

'05 Morano's had this problem also.

Re: 470,000 Ford Mustangs To Be Recalled

Sorry, but safety devices shouldn't be calibrated for people that aren't buckled in. There's a chance that a small unbelted person could get hurt in an accident? Imagine that! Sheesh.

There's been well over 800,000 sold since the 2002 model year after the Camaro left the scene. They'll probably break one million by the time the Camaro returns.

Re: 470,000 Ford Mustangs To Be Recalled

The fact is that in the US in some states, it's not the law to have a safety belt on

Therefore every manufacturer has to design their safety systems to suit an unbelted occupant, no matter how stupid that sounds.

It's crazy, and it costs a bucket load to design, engineer and validate everything, and it is alot more than just the safety belts aswell.

The sad part to me though is the import lovers will also use this to scream more that the domestics can't build quality vehicles compared to their Asian components. I personally don't think it is a big issue.

Re: 470,000 Ford Mustangs To Be Recalled

Wow, Ford must really have problems with their airbag systems. A guy I know from high school (a dropout, go figure) had a pretty new late model Taurus (99 or 00 probably) and he was involved in a serious accident and his airbag did not deploy, so after he recovered he sued Ford, and got a bunch of money. Have not heard about him since, which is fine with me and he is probably broke by now! Wonder why Ford has so may air-bag problems?
