Re: 07126 Special Coverage Adjustment - Loss of Power Steering Assist; Models 2005 Ch
Sonoma, do you know if the replacement columns they are currently using are supposed to correct this problem for good (well, I mean as far as they can tell)? I just had my '05 Maxx in for a steering clunk a couple of weeks ago and in addition to working on the ISS, they replaced the column (all under warranty). I'm just hoping that this will have nipped the loss of power problem in the bud.

When I have taken it to the dealer to get fixed or looked at in the past they were even at a loss and have replaced parts that they weren't sure if they were defective or not, at no cost to me of course (I love my PBG dealership, they take great care of us). Nice to see GM acknowledging the problem with these models. I was starting to think that I was crazy and too rough on the car, even driving it like a grandma. I'm hoping that GM fesses up to the heater fan issue too that plagues me during winter only. This has been an intermittent problem for us that I can't get to reoccur at the dealership when I take it in. I lose almost all "umph" of the fan speed even maxed out at 4. It happened last night for the first time since last winter. It seems when it gets really slushy/wet out and cold, the fan doesn't want to blow hard.

MELVIN, I think it's a new parts# from 9-1-07...so I think you'll be OK!

What exactly is this? Is this a recall? I have a 05 MAXX that had the steering clunk, but fixed it under TSB about the pinch bolt. Haven’t had any losses of steering but this concerns me since it is my wife’s car that she uses to drive the kids around. I'd hate for the steering to go out.

Re: 07126 Special Coverage Adjustment - Loss of Power Steering Assist; Models 2005 Ch
i have an 06 pontiac g6 gtp, and i brought it in two weeks ago for the clunk in the steering. replaced it all under warranty. they said it was the intermediate steering shaft and that it wasnt just my car, (or epsilons) because it happens in envoys, cadillacs, etc. and now i feel the same thing happening in my dads escalade. who ever supplies gm with the shaft is having a problem. and its obviously not just 05 epsilons

Re: 07126 Special Coverage Adjustment - Loss of Power Steering Assist; Models 2005 Ch
Calm down guys! It's not a recall. It's a service bullitin that gets sent out to all service depts. It gives the service writers info on what could be wrong and how to fix it. Whenever they come out, techs such as GMCSonoma post these to let us know about them. If your car works fine, don't worry about it. If it has a steering issue, bring it in- simple as that. GM is going to cover the costs of fixing your steering if you have the problem stated above. Even if your warranty has expired, GM will take care of it.
My question- why is it just for 2005 models?

Norseman, it is not a recall, they extended the warranty coverage on this part, that's what is meant by "special coverage" and it used to be called special policy.

Re: 07126 Special Coverage Adjustment - Loss of Power Steering Assist; Models 2005 Ch
03-05 Impalas are notorious for this intermediate shaft problem also Its a simple fix . W and U body both had this .Grand Prix , Rendezvous and the like.
The malibu /G6 problem is a totally different component than the clunking problem you guys were having. Sounds like they have a handle on it and are standing behind the product for the customers who have this problem. We had a Bu on our lot that was harder steering to the left but not the right. Fixed it the same day.

Re: 07126 Special Coverage Adjustment - Loss of Power Steering Assist; Models 2005 Ch
hey everyone!
I am a GM Tech. Just wanted to let you know that this and the steering clunk are 2 different problems. The clunk is usually a I shaft or a rack. This special coverage is to cover the power assist parts which are really expensive. Good luck to all you Z body owners! |
