Yea, when I talked to my dealer, he was surprised. He said, "WOW!!! We just got this yesterday, I haven't even had time to read it. . . . "

I responded with, "The internet is a wonderful thing!!"

"Eh. . . ." was his reply.

Tell him not to jump for joy just yet, its possible it is the cluster, but in my experience its more than likely a bad sender on the fuel pump that causing that problem. The other deal is this only applies to 03-and 04 trucks, not 2000's.

That is sad...I hope he gets a Cummins then...

otherwise he'll regret that purchase too....

Question Re: 03-04 GMT800 07187 - Special Coverage Adjustment/Instrument Cluster

[quote=GMCSonoma]
DESCRIPTION:
  • SPECIAL COVERAGE Adjustment #07187– SEPTEMBER 28, 2007

DUE TO PART AVAILABILITY, THIS SPECIAL COVERAGE IS BEING ADMINISTERED IN PHASES. YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED AS EACH ADDITIONAL PHASE IS RELEASED.

Regarding the phases that GM is sending out this letter. Do you know how the phases work? Is GM sending the letters to West Coast, Mid West, or East Coast first? Of are the phases based off the VIN?

You're kidding, right? Dang- now he's gonna be pissed after I just called him to tell the good news. How much does it cost to fix the sender?

Well went to the dealer, and he did the diagnostic test on it or something. Said it was messing up, and ordered the replacement cluster.

Re: 03-04 GMT800 07187 - Special Coverage Adjustment/Instrument Cluster

I have a 2004 Impala, and the speedometer is acting all crazy - very similarly in the ways already described in this thread. My car is not on the list the bulletin describes, how can it be added to the list? Thank you.

Cool Re: 03-04 GMT800 07187 - Special Coverage Adjustment/Instrument Cluster

I am suprised that no one answered this gentleman's question.

I called GM about the bulletin being in phase 1. I asked if there were going to be more phases, because of numbering indicating possibly more models listed. They had no answer. I own a 2004 Impala LS with 52,000 miles that has the same symptoms; initially occuring at approx 27,000 miles, but the dealership could not reproduce the malfunction, so nothing was done in the warranty time. As of approx 200 miles ago, my speedo turned all the way around and now rest on the "N".

GM Cust Care asked me how I knew of the bulletin, if I had not received a notice. They also set me up with a local GM dealer appointment Wed to see if it is having the same problem as the truck line. Which it is..........

Thanks to wifiepoo for holding the camera and snapping a couple.

They seem to be hush hush about it over the phone, but the lady did slip to the extent to let me know that there are an extraordinary amount of "ahem", sedan owners, "ahem", having the same problems.

They will replace it under warranty of this bulletin if the problem shows similarities.

So maybe there is hope for the rest of us. I will post up the results later.

this is one recall that pisses me off.

instead of coming pre-programmed, now we have to set up everything for the clusters, specmo used to set it up and everything, we just drop it in and do SPS.

The Suburban had this exact problem back when it was under warranty. Actually it had the steering issue at the same time.

It can be ordered as such...

Actually our techs prefer to program them instead...no big deal IMO...

Nothing that I'm personally aware of for the Impala...

IF the Impala was to be part of the recall, it would have been listed as such...

With any recall or TSB, it's usually cut & dry what applies and what doesn't...

Re: 03-04 GMT800 07187 - Special Coverage Adjustment/Instrument Cluster

GMCSonoma -

If I am understanding you correctly, and everything is "cut and dry," you would say that in your experience, GM would never issue an addendum to this Special Coverage Adjustment????

All one has to do is go to the NHTSA website, plug in the 2004 Impala and look at all the complaints regarding this very issue. How many more cases have to be documented before this car is added to the bulletin??

Believe me, if money were no object and I could afford the cost of the part and the $50/hr labor [or however much it is] charge, I'd have had this fixed as soon as it arose. Unfortunately, I am a disabled veteran on a fixed income and can not afford this expense. This is also my primary vehicle for my going back and forth to my school (80 miles/trip) as well as the vehicle I use to take my two kids back and forth to their school functions (16 miles/trip).

I also have photos still in my camera that depict the speedometer you could say "in the six o'clock position" while in park. If the dealer charges to diagnose or look at my car, I'd be SOL. God only knows I can't afford any speeding tickets either.

Explain to me the fairness of Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Escalade etc. owners getting theirs fixed for free while I take a gamble every time I drive my car. Are sedan owners (and we are legion) looked down upon by GM, or are there just too many of us out there and it would be too cost prohibitive for GM to have some accountability for this faulty equipment problem???

I've also noticed that alot of the car rental agencies utilize the Impala and if all of them were to go on the blink at around 45,000, those agencies would reconsider their choice in vehicle. This just sounds like bad business to me. What do you suggest I do???

Re: 03-04 GMT800 07187 - Special Coverage Adjustment/Instrument Cluster

I got the letter in the mail on friday for my 04 Silvy. I don't have the problem but I afraid it will die after 70,000.
