Re: What Chevy Volt Concept?
This car NEEDS to look amazing to grab and keep attention. Although I have no doubt in my mind that GM designers are smart enough to not throw out a car that is Prius-like in ugliness, I'm still skeptical that this car will look as revolutionary and as amazing as the underlying powertrain is. It certainly must be a challenge to get an aerodynamic car look amazing, but I hope no one made any stupid mistakes and shortcuts along the way. Regardless I remain hopeful.

Re: What Chevy Volt Concept?
I have been curious since Day 1 if there will be an effort to preserve in some fashion the odd side windows, which don't look like they could open or close...maybe transparent strips in the top of the body? Drop that "look" altogether? Bummer that most people dislike covered wheel wells, like the Ford Probe V concept car had, as that does WONDERS for lowering the co-efficient of drag. Maybe at least it will have a full belly pan. But then again, I was one of the few that thought the 1991 Caprice was gorgeous, or that liked the Honda Insight. I just hope that GM hits this one out of the park in all regards with the Volt and the E Flex powertrain!

Re: What Chevy Volt Concept?
I hate when cares just take pieces from other cars and concepts then just piece them together and then mod it a bit... they need whole new ideas and designs.

Re: What Chevy Volt Concept?
You are incorrect in your assumption there will be even remotely pronounced fender flares.
![]() Click for a larger (low quality) picture. You can clearly see that for at least the rear wheel arches the car is virtually flat. Up front, there isn't a defined flare, but there is an identifiable soft bulge. Additionally, your angles for what you show is the top of the sheetmetal of the door panels are slightly wrong. The ledge in on the tester is a constant width while yours tapers smaller as it goes back. In fact, the sharp crease shown in your rendering and in the model could easily be the top of the door skin, with the area above that still being done in some type of composite material... the fact you picked that line moving forward onto the front fender (as in the concept) could make it easier to believe there is more resembelance to that area than you depict with simply an akward fender/door/hood area. |

Re: What Chevy Volt Concept?
Those weird door-windows always seemed like a completely unrealistic detail that would never make it into production. (Several hunks of plastic/glass probably wouldn't do anything to increase visibility anyway.)
