Re: Turncoat II: The Blue Oval Betrayal?

Regarding all the comments about the upcoming Silverado, a few things about that:

First, I don't like the photos I've seen of the new Chevy truck. Having said that, the first photos I saw of the Five Hundred and Impala did them a great injustice--both cars turn out to be very visually appealing to me. Anyone who wants argue that the new Silverado will look much in better in person will have made a point well-taken.

Chevy is at a serious disadvantage at the moment IMO. The new Silverado had better be a vast improvement over the current model. Not that the Silverado is half bad, it's just that the F150 is a really nice piece of work.

Secondly--and this one is sorta' painful considering that I've always regarded myself as being too discerning to fall for name brands--there's just something about the Ford truck brand that works well around here. My experience driving it home was positive on so many levels beyond the big mechanical thing I was driving.

Thirdly, the lease payment on this F150 is just incredible. I suspect that if I want a new Silverado, I'll be waiting awhile for the incentives to kick in and the price to come down.

That two-year lease may be the kicker. I could never get GM to do a two-year lease without jacking up the payments substantially, yet this FoMoCo two-year lease offers a lower monthly payment than a 3-year. That's just too cool, especially since two years represents the point at which I get tired of a car.

Hey, you like what you like. If a Ford meets your needs, so be it! I DO have to comment on your quote above though... what on earth, after the Fusion, Mustang, and F-150, could you find attractive at a Ford dealership?!? You're already stretching it with that trio.

Well I am not an import fan by any means, however europe does indeed allow american companies to set up shop without having to partner with locals for credibility. SO, good for you on the Jetta, but I would have waited for the diesel corsa!

Re: Turncoat II: The Blue Oval Betrayal?

Ford offers these with three different bed lengths. Are you looking at one with the 5.5 bed or 6.5 bed? You might save a foot there, with an obvious tradeoff.

Style-wise, I (like someone else here) prefer the FX4. You probably don't need 4WD in TX. But the FX4 will be available in 2WD form for 2007. Not sure when that is.

For performance, the real question is when these trucks get more than four transmission ratios.

No pickup prices at my site currently. Thinking of adding them for 2007, but am not sure many people are interested. I don't see many full-size SUV price comparisons.

Yup, they had a gazillion of the 6.5-ft models, but only two with the 5.5 foot bed. Among the two, one was more like a cheesy base model and the other one has the "Texas Oklahoma" package I mentioned. Very nice truck.

Anyway, I wasn't going to be talked into the longer truck even though they had a huge selection. Luckily (or unluckily ), they had that one.

Well, you should be ok, then. Even a Ford can make it two years...

I don't think the 4.3L came along in the S-10 until 88. Must be the 2.8L V-6. Very impressive service. A friend has a coworker with an S-10 4 banger that have 500K on it. No engine work either.

Get rid of the Jetta. Keep the Eldorado. Buy the truck.

Re: Turncoat II: The Blue Oval Betrayal?

Hey don't feel bad I almost got one also because at the time, 5 months ago, they had $5000 in rebates on it. I could not do it though because I am not a truck person. I live in Texas (Houston) and yes people love Chevy and Ford trucks here. Go for it if you like it as long as it is not a Toyota your good with me LOL!

The Volkswagen still has two+ years on the lease. Besides, I need a fuel-efficient vehicle in the stable and the garage math won't accommodate the Eldorado.

The Eldo is also a project car, and I'm busy enough trying to get my Coupe de Ville to a state of perfect condition.

Re: Turncoat II: The Blue Oval Betrayal?

See the new Silverado or Sierra. Also pay attention to what you pay at the end of the lease as well.

Or check out the new Avalanche.

But yeah, better a Ford than a Toyota.

Re: Turncoat II: The Blue Oval Betrayal?

I really don't care for the Fusion or the Mustang. But unless the upcoming Silverado handilly beats the F150 in fuel mileage and price, or the Sierra somehow ends up looking good, I'm afraid I'm gonna purchase another Ford. In my heart I'll always be a GM fan and will always pull for them, but it's pretty obvious GM is not the car company they used to be. This is odd considering I used to make fun of Ford people too, but they've been pretty good to me lately.
