Re: Someone Has to Say It.

Great article, Swahili. I agree with you. I'd rather see GM fail then be swallowed and basically ''Surrender'' by paper. Let's compete, let's win and let's do this thing. Just say; NO. No to any Alliance that GM would be the smaller partner. GM is the world's largest automaker. I'd rather see Bankruptcy then to have one of the proposed ''Alliances'' go through.

All due respect...
That is good for the country? That would be foolish to let GM go bankrupt. Mergers happen everyday....why is GM not allowed to ally with some other company? For prides sake?

There is an old saying: "Pride comes before the fall..."

Re: Someone Has to Say It.

But the thing is, the only reason this has came about is cause Kerkorian wants a faster ROI. Wagoner and GM didn't ask for all this crap. Kerkorian and York felt like they should do it so Kerkorian can fatten is money clip

We'd better hope like hell that GM brass doesn't think like this.

I love GM as much as anyone.

But if people are going to assert that people only buy Toyotas because they're brainwashed, or "dumb", you will see an argument from me.

I won't stand by while people here post this sort of nonsense; this sort of thought is PRECISELY why GM is in the crapper while the imports have taken over. It amounts to arrogance - something that you guys accuse Toyota of.

Wake up, people. People buy Toyotas because they have built better cars for the past 30 years, not because they're stupid.

When we start to see the tide change, it will be sweeter for people like me to see it happen; for you boneheads, there wasn't a problem in the first place. Completely clueless.

Re: Someone Has to Say It.

Just curious, but has anyone looked at the ages of people who owned toyotas when the reliability of the cars was so high? I mean honestly you can buy a domestic car cheaper than you can a import. And a lot of younger people dont know how to take care of a car to well. So if you have older more responsible people buying the "vanilla" imports that get better gas econ. and younger people that dont take such good care of their cars buying domestics, wouldnt you see a difference in quality? I mean it just seems to me that lately the quality rating for imports havent been as high, but the domestics are getting back up in the ratings

Re: Someone Has to Say It.

Well, someone has to say it: Why not?

Really, all this talk of an unassisted comeback would make a very inspirational hallmark film, but is it the best solution?

First off, I consider the Japan Vs. GM argument is moot. Would Nissan spend billions of dollars just to try and hurt GM? That makes as much business sense as burning money, which is what that whole conspiracy theory adds up to. Also, GM stands to gain alot. The VQ35 is a great engine showing both versatility, power, and ability to be shared across many different platforms. Also, GM needs a midsize RWD platform. And waiting a few years for a possible product isnt viable. Plus, Nissan has some transmissions the General could put to use. Few buyers are going to wait 3 years to buy a car in order to see what the General cranks out. Now, I will grant that Nissan would gain alot of benefits from the truck products. And the ecotec would be a sweet score for Nissan. Still, I go buy what I see, not what Lutz says might be coming in 4 or so years, assuming planetary allignment.....more bs excuses. I see alot of Nissans around where i live. The people I know with them love them. I say we open our minds, and really examine who stands to gain what.
Turning GM around is about action, not endless banter of the future. So go ahead, call me a Nissan-fan, Un-American, a GM-hater, not patriotic. You'll be dead wrong. I just see GM gaining alot from this. Apparently, I am alone.

I believe that old saying comes from the Bible: Pride goeth before the fall. And pride is considered the deadliest of the seven deadly sins.

Well I think Kerkoian is smart for proposing the merger. It puts pressure on the execs. to boost the company, or deal with a competitor. Its a win-win situation

Pride is good, you cant live without it. Too much pride is a diffrent story. Almost all of the deadly sins are really about knowing your limits, but I dont want to go too much off topic...
