Re: Pontiac: Start Making Sense
Well stated. I just hope that Pontiac can get their act together.

Re: Pontiac: Start Making Sense
Ghrankenstein, great write up! I enjoyed it thoroughly.
WildGMFan - blaming Saturn for Olds' demise and now Pontiac's dearth of original product is taking the easy way out. Pontiac's downhill run started in the 80s. "We Build Excitement" and we give you the Fiero? Nowadays its the G5 carrying the banner of mediocrity. Joy. To save Pontiac, it needs to be all-RWD and all-performance. No commuter cars, no subcompacts, no small station wagons and no Azteks. Saturn had a plan to add models so that by the mid-1990s it would have a larger sedan, a 2-seater, a small SUV and a minivan to add to its original small car, sound familiar? Maybe like its current lineup, only a decade later than planned? You can thank GM's decision to focus on SUVs in the 90s, which denied Saturn the funds to expand and in part, helped to allow the other divisions to exact revenge on the subsidiary as Saturn's products withered on the vine. |

Re: Pontiac: Start Making Sense
I think you nailed it with "Chevrolet Jr.". For too long Pontiac has had to suffer with Chevrolet hand-me-downs. Pontiac is the brand in jeopardy right now at GM. Being a long time Pontiac fan, its painful to see it decay like it has while other less deserving brands (Saturn) are given whatever they want (as in there version of the Solstice).
I find it amazing how thousands see the problems going on within Pontiac, yet the management seems to be blind to these problems. Pontiac needs a modern day John DeLorean to help get its act together. If that means pissing in Chevrolets wheaties, then so be it. Pontiac needs all performance cars. No Vibe, no Torrent, no minivan, etc.. No stopgaps like G5. No void fillers like that dumbed down GTO from 04-06. Like I've said before, the Solstice is the only vehicle Pontiac has done right since 2002.

Re: Pontiac: Start Making Sense
How refreshing to hear some clear concise thoughts. We all seem to be nit picking at all the little things on this car or the other (probably a good thing for GM really
) that some of the bigger picture seems to have been lost. Thanks for reminding us that not everything is fixed at our beloved GM yet. Nice write up Ghrankenstein

Re: Pontiac: Start Making Sense
The fiero was awesome.. had it been given the right engine.. before they canned it Pontiac was working on a GTP version using the 190HP quad4 IIRC.. looked bad ass too...
The Vibe could be a good rally wagon, it just needs AWD and 300 turbo HP. The G6 could be awesome with AWD and 300HP from the 3.6 or even the HF2.8 with a turbo the Solstice is going fine as is. Grand Prix/G8- call it tempest, 300HP DI 3.6 base, 350HP Turbo 3.6 425HP 6.2L AFM GTO: Coupe of the tempest, only add the judge package; a supercharger making 520HP. make Pontiac basically destroy whatever Nissan, Mazda, ect. are trying to do. Make Buick whoop Lexus/Mercedes. |

Re: Pontiac: Start Making Sense
Hmmm....A Pontiac Vibe to crash the party between Subaru(Impreza WRX/STi) & Mitsubishi(Lancer Evolution X), I think would be a cool idea!
The Solstice just refreshened a couple years before either a redesign or equal replacement. I think the G6 should be the Tempest. The Grand Prix should remain the Grand Prix w/the GTO being its 2dr counterpart.

Re: Pontiac: Start Making Sense
Let's hope GM get their act togather with Pontiac soon, they cannot leave it like it is too much longer...
To start things off Pontiac needs asap: RWD Grand Prix 4 door and GTO 2 door. Firebird Kill the brain dead G6, G5, etc names.... |

Clearly Pontiac should get better than the watered down junk they force on us. Thank you for the write up. Like I stated earlier, it hit the nail right on the head. |
