Re: Pontiac Needs to Close

Buick's main problem is image. They have quality vehicles as evidenced by high rankings in reliability, the best GM has. Everyone just thinks they're a old-fogey brand. However, nobody really thinks Buicks, in general, are pieces of crap.

Pontiac, regardless of heritage, regardless of performance, is perceived by many to be exactly why they hate GM. Stale rebadges of the same car one can get at the Chevy lot. Reliability that is more suspect than some of the other GM brands. And vehicles that can readily be had at any Hertz lot you go to.

Which is easier to fix? The brand nobody really hears much about and has little in the way of current product or the one that has had product but has had a negative perception to.

I'm not agreeing w/ the decision or glad it's happening, but this is the reality. Crying about how the brand was mismanaged or mistakes that were made now is too late.

And for all of you that say you love the G8 or Solstice or some other Pontiac model, would love to buy one but for one reason or another have not, you have yourself as much to blame as mismanagement for when Pontiac threw out a credible product, you denied the brand the opportunity for continued profit from a purchase.

For those that did just that, I feel for you and truly empathize with your pain in seeing a beloved brand become a part of history. You did what you could to keep the brand alive.

Re: Pontiac Needs to Close

There was a guy on AutoLine a few weeks ago that said General Motors should get rid of the people who ran Pontiac and not close down a car line that has been around so long. The car business goes up and down so maybe Pontiac just needs smarter people in charge.

Yes, I agree. It wasn't the brand/division's fault some/most of it's current line up wasn't so great. It's fault lies w/human error thus the people running Pontiac but also those at the top of GM & even the BoD that were there under Wagoner aside from himself & other CEO's before him. There are many people to blame for Pontiac not having the product/cars needed to be profitable. Way too many corners were cut w/Pontiac's products among other brands products.

Even though Mr Wagoner lost a lot of money and the stock went way down, he did get the union to give back things and he tried his best to stay out of bankruptcy. I don't think he ever would have let them close Pontiac.

Re: Pontiac Needs to Close

GMC should not phase out Pontiac a great brand but instead send it to Russia or Latin America or in Africa and India like what they did to Buick in China who knows it might be successful like Buick

Re: Pontiac Needs to Close

GM should rename itself into GMC for General Motors Company in order for GMC to have a strong retention from customers plus of course nice products that are desirable and affordable and user friendly as well as modification friendly and trendy

This thread is named "Pontiac needs to close."
It is closed.
Apparently it didn't have the brand equity of Oh, say, Aveo.
Cheers.

Except Aveo wasn't a brand and Pontiac had its own version, the G3.

Cheers,
