Re: New Life? Cobalt Gets Some MPG, MP3

So it will finally be competitive with the Focus and other fuel efficient small cars.

Re: New Life? Cobalt Gets Some MPG, MP3

This car is a penalty box with embarrassing quality, ultra bland styling and zero desirability. Aside from the Astra (which won't sell well despite being an excellent car) and Vibe GM has zero competitive small cars.

GM needs a compact car with as much effort put into it as the CTS. They need to completely rethink cars like this and produce something jaw dropping, not yawn inducing or laughable.

But, the only problems I have heard (from cruising the internet) are from people that are trying to use it with the iPod classic. I may be wrong. But hey, the iPod classic is like the Silverado Classic (a previous model they are trying to get rid of while supplies last). I'm sure that by next year, the iPod classic will no longer be available.

As for the Cobalt, it's great to hear that they are tweaking the powertrain. As for the interior, I don't think it is that bad for the segment. It could use better materials and a little more style, but I don't think it is a deal breaker. As for the exterior, it definitely looks dated. I think that could be easily overcome with a new front clip and a new rear end. It seems like an MCE would be really easy for the exterior. Does anybody here know how much money it would take for a simple redesign of the front and rear of the exterior? I would think it would be peanuts compared to completely re-engineering the car and it would give the Cobalt a fresh, new look.
Actually the iPod Classic is an all new iPod, it is just the 6th Generation of the iPod. Basically it is an iPod with Video that has more features and space. How they can make the iPod Video work but not the Classic which is newer is beyond me. Classic only refers to the design (as in it is a larger iPod) not to it being dated.

Will the 2010 Cobalt still be built in Lordstown?

Re: New Life? Cobalt Gets Some MPG, MP3

A 2 mpg boost is not bad for the Cobalt this will make more competitive with others in it's class. I think this is the perfect time for GM to enhance the engines making them more fuel efficient considering the increased demand for the Cobalt over the past several months.

Re: New Life? Cobalt Gets Some MPG, MP3

I am averaging about 33mpg on my Cobalt right now, though I normally hit about 40mpg on the interstate at 65 mph.

I will take the additional 2mpg any day.

Wow...someone must have had a lemon Cobalt I see. Good thing my Cobalt has been extremely reliable, excellent quality (beyond the Civic in fact), great styling on my coupe, and is desired by millions as it is selling very well.

But your opinion is noted

At one time the Cobalt had the highest initial quality in it's class. IS that still the case? I don't know. I know quite a few Cobalt owners and they are quite happy with the car.

haha i no i have had nothing but good luck with my G5. i also like to play around with the car and bring it to the track and have some fun with the 2.4l its got under the hood. the cars the best car i have owned. the road noise is almost none. even with the radio off you dont hear much of anything. just when you get on the gas and you hear the gmpp intake screaming. and the tyle of the g5 GT i would take over any car in its class.

I agree that GM needs to put the same effort into the next Cobalt as it did in the CTS.

The current Cobalt is not exciting (except the coupe), but it is put together well and it is much more fun to drive than the slower and noisier Corolla, Sentra, Versa, Elantra and non-Si Civics. I have driven them all.

I look forward to seeing the 2010 Cobalt.

I had an 06 Cobalt SS Supercharged and just recently traded it because I wanted a convertible. And the front was a little bland, the sides and the rear look great. The interior could have used some updates. But even so, I had not a single problem with reliability or quality. Which is one of the first times in the 7 GM cars I have had.I also dont see how you could say 0 drivability I drove my car every day during the indiana winters and never had any issues. I averaged 24mpg in the city which Its very impressive for a supercharged coupe. Its really funny I use to see tons of the new civics around the city and now I see just as many if not more cobalt's driving around than the new civic.

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/ov...t&model=Cobalt

2008 Cobalt gets an average 9.6 rating by consumers (note 9.2, 9.6 for interior/quality)

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/ov...da&model=Civic

2008 Civic gets an average 8.6 rating by consumers (note 8.3,8.7 for interior/quality)

Goes to show some people are just here to spread FUD.
