Re: GMI First Look: 2010 Camaro
Nice writeup. Man the new Chevy Camaro looks flat out gorgeous!
If I was looking to buy the new Camaro when it hits the market early next year, I would definitely opt for the DI V6 engine. The DI V6 engine has plenty of power and I should mention that for a car as heavy as the Camaro it gets decent MPG too. Overall the car is awesome! I can't wait to see it in person.... |

Re: GMI First Look: 2010 Camaro
I remember the summer before I got my license (17 on Jan 4th 2002) thatgas was under a dollar.
When I got my license and used to take my 87 up to Englishtown that next summer, 93 was 1.45 a gallon, but the Sunnoco had 94, but I would only fill up on that if it was under 1.75. I remember it only wet over 1.75 2 times in the summer of 2002. But I remember being upset when my friends who had thier license a year before me were paying around a dollar a gallon. Either way, 1998-2002 was cheap gas, but Camaro's sales were in the toilet.

Re: GMI First Look: 2010 Camaro
It looks naked without stripes. The first year run of colors also leaves something to be desired. And it's a damn shame there will not be a right-wheel drive Impala based on the Camaro's guts. This has amounted to a hefty investment in plant tooling and engineering for just one car whose overall sales figures are going to be low in the grand scheme of things.
Still, this is the type of car Chevrolet should be making. This is the type of styling and attention to detail and engineering EVERY Chevrolet should be sporting. Chevrolet is not cheap Korean penalty boxes, wrong-wheel drive rental quality Impalas, big bland trucks or Japanese Toyota knock-off Malibus. Chevrolet is as proud and mainstream an American brand as Ford and like baseball and apple pie it must be distinctly American. That has to be reflect in the interior and exterior styling as well as the driving dynamics of every Chevrolet. The Camaro (and Corvette) should be used as a benchmarket for all future products, but sadly it probably won't be. |

Re: GMI First Look: 2010 Camaro
Just an observation but where are all of the postive posts that GM has finally put 6-speed MANUAL transmissions in a performance car (other than Vette) attached to BOTH V6 and V8 engines and as an added bonus more HP with the V8 if you get a manual?
Where are you guys? Your car will be here soon. |

Ford understood what the Mustang meant to the brand and continually refined it, maintained it as the most affordable way to get into a V8 with style and made it a better package for mainstream use, sounds like what the Japanese do with their cars doesn't it? Then when the Camaro went away to free up more resources for more d@mn trucks Ford treated to the Mustang to a full redesign and the timeless iconic styling that made the car what it is. GM has been left in the dust ever since. The Camaro could be a better car, but the class is still Ford's to lose. And Ford has a comprehensive nip and tuck for their class leader they'll be showing later this year. |

Re: GMI First Look: 2010 Camaro
Agreed, I would like to see the Insigna's shifter with its gear lay out in the Camaro.
See if someone cant get a part number for those bad boys!!

This Camaro looks absolutely fabulous. At first I thought the Challenger had it all over the Camaro and now the more I see real photos I am really liking the Camaro. If I buy a V8 the choice is going to be painstaking. The curious thing is that the V6 in the Camaro is an engine I have been singing praises about for a long time and I might actually consider getting a V6 Camaro because of it. I wouldn't even consider any of the other pony cars in V6 guise. I wonder how many people are actually considering a V6 now that GM decided to give us a great one with a 6M/6A even though they would not have considered a V6 in a Camaro ever before.

Re: GMI First Look: 2010 Camaro
I think I got y'all all beat.
In the Spring 1999 I did a fill up at a Exxon station in Mt. Pleasant, SC at 79.9 cents a gallon. SC historically has the lowest gas prices in the nation. The Fall after Hurricane Katrina I paid $1.99.9 gallon in SC also. It's been on a steady rise prety much since then. Now we long for gas under $2.50. |

I dunno about the SC having the lowest gas in the nation historically. That's always been NJ due to our much lower gas taxes... EDIT- Here's a graph from fueleconomy.gov It reflects about how I remember gas prices being over the last 10+ years. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/gaspr...linePrices.gif
