Re: GMI Concept of the Month: Chevrolet Borrego
I always thought this was GM's answer to the AMC Eagle hatchback. I'm not sure who asked the question, but thankfully this beast didn't make production!

I don't think you really want to put the letters "SUC" on a car. That aside, I thought this concept could have made a fun light weight off-road vehicle that could re-energize a segment that has been owned almost completely by Jeep Wrangler for years. I always loved this front end design. |

Back in the 80's I thought the AMC Eagle was awesome....There were not many 4wd cars back then....

Re: GMI Concept of the Month: Chevrolet Borrego
Seems like too much of a niche product to have succeeded. A truck with a turbo boxer 4? Hmmm...
The front end definitely evokes the Avalanche and later Silverados, though. |

Re: GMI Concept of the Month: Chevrolet Borrego
This would have been a great model to produce. GM could still make it, just on their own. The Dodge rampage concept posted earlier reminded me of the K5 concept a few years back from GM.

Re: GMI Concept of the Month: Chevrolet Borrego
I always thought that would be a great production car..truck....whatever it is. I would love to have something like that. Although I think the US getting the Holden UTE would be kinda similar, I bet if we do get it it will not be the 4wd version though

Re: GMI Concept of the Month: Chevrolet Borrego
The Borrego has always been one of my favorite concepts. It was partially because it had a new Chevy look, back when Chevy's looked like Cavaliers and the old Malibu. This was something that at least looked exciting. But also loved the idea of an El Camino type car that could go off road, for people who wanted a car and not a truck. I have no love for the old El Camino itself, but this thing could carry 4 people with the small bed in back, or 2 with the midgate down.
I thought this thing would be unique in the market and sell well in Arizona, Texas, Colorado and California in particular (areas where GM needs help), plus areas like Northern Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and most of the Northern US. Has anyone here seen how many Subarus are in Northern Michigan (Traverse City, etc.)???? I'd never consider a truck, but this is something I'd buy if I were in the market for a new car. More practical than a Sky and more useful than a G8. Anyway, I've posted this before, but I think they should do this car off of something! A Zeta or an Epsilon AWD or a GMT355. Something. I think it would sell as many units as they're whispering about with the El Camino, if not more. Share the platform with the Ute! Give the Ute a midgate option.

Re: GMI Concept of the Month: Chevrolet Borrego
Wow. I forgot all about this concept until you guys just brought it up here. See how GM just seems to have all these concepts, and then don't use them for (seemingly) anything? And then people forget about the concept.
