Supposedly thats when the first ones start rolling down the line. I'd have your deposit in and you dealer's # on speed dial if you want one before March, and you'll still probably be the only one on your block for quite a while. I'm a certified Camaro nut (went to Detroit for the unveil, just bought a second 4th gen for me & my dad to build a drag car),and I think this release is going to be even crazier than the release of the latest Stang as far as obnoxious dealer markups and ridiculously long waiting lists. This thing has been hyped beyond belief. It was the star of a 300+ million motion picture for chrissakes.
yell-01vette,
Thanks for the info. I was skeptical when the sales manager told me next summer. I was also wondering about that deposit. I'm not sure when GM allows dealers to start taking deposits on future cars.

And I agree that the release of the Camaro is going to be crazier than the Mustang release. I don't have to be the first guy on the block to own one, but if it comes down to the deposit for ASAP delivery or get stuck waiting in line for a year, then I'm going to get that $ together quick.

Good god, I can't wait!

Re: GMI Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Camaro!

I've always had a soft spot for the 1970-1973 Camaros. They are the sexiest looking Camaros built imo. Long, low, sleek, and lots of attitude.

When I was a little kid (probably 4 or 5) my mom had an electric blue 87 IROC. I loved that car too. The paint was amazing. You know you've done your job right when you can design a car a 4 year old still remembers it when he is 21. Of the 4th gens, I only liked the LT1 years. The LS1 cars looked to plain and boring. I loved how the LT1s headlights peeked out from under the hood.

How sad the Camaro is not here to celebrate its 40th. I guess its here in spirit though

Re: GMI Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Camaro!

Happy 40th Camaro!

I've owned a TransAm and now 3 Mustangs -- never a Camaro, but that classic rivalry of the three popular pony cars has changed the automotive landscape in ways that few rivalries ever have.

Who didn't cheer in Transformers when the Camaro vs. Mustang battle broke out? Before there was Mac vs. PC there was Mustang vs. Camaro (and Firebird).

These cars all stir the blood. As awesome as the Corvette is, GM was missing a large chunk of its soul without the Camaro and Firebird prowling the streets. GTO is no substitute (sorry GTO guys -- the new GTO just doesn't get the heart pounding like ANY generation F-Body).

Anyway, I better put some money away in the budget -- I think I'll need a supercharger before 2009 to keep up with you Camaro guys...

Ha ha. I traded it in for this.

Oy yea, they sold the Camaro in about a week. I'm seeing more kids driving "muscle cars". I think they are beginning to appreciate the satisfction one gets from that V-8 rumble, and torque you just can't find on an import. Super charged V-6 with 280hp, or not.

We are all giddy like little school girls. The wait is almost over. Hmm, we need a ticker to count donw the days, minutes and seconds until the NG Camaro hits the streets.

Re: GMI Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Camaro!

I'm not sure how this could be the 40th Anniversary if there is no current car. If your wife dies after 30 years of marriage do you celibrate your 40th or 50th anniversary. Kinda strange if you ask me.

I've always liked Firebird interiors better - hard to beat a '78 T/A dash.

Camaros have had some great styling elements though. The first gen cowl induction hood is still one of my favorite hood/scoop setups of all time (pictured on black '67 at start of thread). I also love the RS split front bumper and grille setup on the early 2nd gen cars.

The '69 Camaro is an awesome basis of inspiration for the new Camaro. Hoo-ahh!

Re: GMI Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Camaro!

Both the Firebird and the Camaro were beautiful cars overall. Certain years were better style wise with each one. In '77 or '78 I would have taken the Trans Am, but in '79 it would have been the Z28 (I never cared much for the '79-'81 Trans Am front end or the 301 Turbo engine). Most of the 3rd generation I would have taken the Camaro.

Both were great cars!

Re: GMI Provides Link to Top Camaro Sites!

Good read, love the Camaro and have owned one of mine for 23 years.

At the bottom of this commentaries page, interesting.

http://www.usavotedsites.com/chevrol...et+dealer.html

It said top Camaro sites, I own 3 and don't think those are top sites.
