Re: The Definitive GM Performance Car List 1986-2006

Also, how about the 1988-1989 Corvette Challenge cars and the 1990 World Challenge Corvettes (RPO R96)?

FYI, the last model year for the ZR-1 was 1995. There was no 1997 ZR-1.

GM did not produce a ZR-1 in 97, but Mallet did, hence the "1997 Mallet Corvette ZR-1". If I am not mistaken it had a 420ci engine, 650 or so hp and cost well over $100,000. I think I remeber reading about it in my Corvette anthology book.

So you go by the year the owner decided to have it modified? Or did Mallett actually manufacture a new frame, block, suspension bits, wheels, etc and certify their own car for sale in 1997?

Re: The Definitive GM Performance Car List 1986-2006

^^^ Mallet offered their 97 Mallet ZR-1 package for Corvettes in 1997, pretty simple to understand. It was offered in the same way the 93 Firehawk by SLP mentioned above was. Not a factory option from GM, but was a available tuner package made by a performance company.

In 1993, The Firehawk package was a factory option. You could order it from your GM dealer, and the work was done by SLP.

I think what you meant was the 1992 Firehawk. And those cars were all 1992 MY cars. SLP I believe made a couple 1991 MY cars, and they were sold as such.

The ZR-1 in question has only one VIN, correct? And that VIN indicates a model year. I doubt that year is 1997. As an analogy, Lingenfelter still sells packages for the ZR-1. If I had them stroke my motor out to 415 ci, would that make my car a 2008 ZR-1? No, it would not. I hope that that is simple to understand.

FYI, while Callaway made over 500 Twin Turbo Corvettes, they only made ONE Sledgehammer.

Now you are just arguing for the sake of arguing. I looked it up in my Coevette book last nite. In 1997 Mallet produced a package for 1997 Corvettes(new style). It had a 650hp 420ci engine, modified suspension, drivetrain, wheels, ect. Due to the fact it cost about $115,000 they made less than 15 or so. They called it a 1997 Mallet Corvette ZR-1. Thats about it. This package was only avaliable for 97 Corvettes due to the fact it was too expensive and very few people bought them, so they didnt continue to make them in following years.

So you are saying it was a C5 Corvette? A 1997 model year, and they just happened to use the term "ZR-1" to describe it? If so, that really wasn't clear at all. What you were saying read like it is a '97 because that's when they did the modification. Do you have some kind of link to the car?

Re: The Definitive GM Performance Car List 1986-2006

As I find it hard to swing by lately, I give free access to other mods to add to the list if they have time.

If anyone wants to start a 2007+ list or tack that on to this one, that's encouraged, too.
