Re: 2007 GMT-900 1500 Pickups: Many First Impressions
After spending some time hopping in and out of and driving a 900 Sierra SLE tonight I noticed how much taller they are than the 800s and was a bit suprised at how much harsher the ride is opposed to an 800 with the same suspension package. I still love the 900 and the way it drives, not to mention all of the other updates over the 800.

Re: 2007 GMT-900 1500 Pickups: Many First Impressions
I found the article to be very helpful and insightful, however with my low truck knowledge and being a new young car and truck salesman I am trying to learn as much as possible. I was able to understand almost then entire article, but what is a "full-floating rear-end in a half ton truck" all about. Thanks for your time and expertise.

Keep in mind that the weight of the back half of the truck rides on, and is concentrated on, its mounting points to the rear axle. Half-ton trucks almost always use a semi-floating setup, where the axle rides on a single set of pin-bearings. Heavier trucks use a second set of bearings inward of the first, secured with a heavier housing. This allows the weight of heavier trucks to be better distributed to the axle, and places less stress on the axle. Previously, the lightest trucks to have the full-floating rear-end were the GMC 1500 HD. The Chevy 1500 HD was $500 less, and had the semi-floating. I still don't have complete information on the Vortec Max towing package, so I'm hoping.

Re: 2007 GMT-900 1500 Pickups: Many First Impressions
Grank,
I am a shopforeman in a GMC store and I just wanted to say that I think what you wrote is dead on I read all your reports on the new trucks I too just attended the ride and drive last month in our area and what I think GM needs to do is make a comerical with the Humilator and show the public what the GM trucks can do. we have about 8 new trucks on the lot I am waiting to drive a Vortex max when it comes in and a 2500 with the 6 speed auto and the 6.0 liter to see which one I like best. |
